JUNK in the TRUNK???
In the 2007 ZX6R, nothing!
I took out the tool kit and now I can fit my ID, cell phone, bank card and Visa under my seat as long as I put them in a Zip Lock bag.
I would like to fit my wallet - but no luck.
My bike has me living like a very fast bag lady.
What can you pack into your trunk?

I like to use a tank bag. That way I have room for a bottle of water, phone, munchies, jacket, whatever.
Talk to Sheppy about trunk space! His RC51 is like a gym locker!

I know!!!
Me too!
It sound silly - but I feel so unsafe with stuff in my pockets.
When Worm_hole crashed, his bike landed on his radio that was in his front pocket of his leather jacket and he said that he was sore from the two hard objects contacting on impact.
That is how I remember it - he probably will be saying something different.
But since then - I hate having stuff in my pockets.
I think that it would make riding the bike safer if they gave the riders a small bit of room in the trunk for a wallet and a cell phone - two things you can't leave home without....
A tank bag is ok for more stuff - but most of the time I don't like stuff on my bike...

Cell phone should always be kept on your person.
- Bike will shatter
- Cell phone is not bullet proof
- You won't always be able to get up and walk to bike to get shattered phone
- Phone should be safe in your jacket for you to have easy access to for when you're lying face up or down to dial 911.

+++1 Nick I always do that. Rare to land chest down, and kill the phone in the inside pocket. Easy to get to with a broken... ?

I'm with you on the ZX-6 trunk. I got spoiled with the ZX-12r. I could put a foot long sub sandwich and something to drink in the 12 and go ride to some mountain look out and eat lunch.
A cell phone wouldn't do me a lot of good in the mountains where I ride. Even if you could get a signal you still have to give them a location and I don't think those in cell GPS are all that reliable especially if you go sliding off the mountain into the trees. I've always toyed with the idea of getting an aircraft ELT (Emergency Locater Transmitter). It goes off automatically if a certain G-Force is exceeded. An ELT signal is picked up by satellites in space and would activate a search and rescue.
The FCC, FAA, and the Air Force finally got of their asses and have approved Personal Emergency Beacons that use the same 406 MHz beacon signal.
http://www.rei.com/product/48142632.htm
They are designed for campers or boaters. It would be nice to see one with some kind of impact or tilt sensor. Something that would go off automatically when the bike goes down. Of course it should beep very loudly for 60 seconds or so before it calls out the Search and Rescue guys so you can shut if off if your ok.
The personal beacons allow you to attach an information file to your beacon with important medical / rescue information. Mine would say....
The dumbass who owns this beacon is a motorcycle rider who was probably going to fast and wiped out in a corner and slid off the side of a mountain into the trees. Look for him along the Hurricane Ridge Road.
My other great idea: Dye packs for frame sliders. When the bike goes down it leaves a big day glow green paint mark in the road showing where your bike went down and which direction it was sliding when it went off the cliff.
Off course I guess it would be easier to just slow down.....

I like the dye pack - good everywhere except the track.
It wouldn't have to be a dye pack - but if the frame sliders were made out of a softer material - say something that was intended for a single use - then maybe the plastic compoud itself could leave a skid mark to show where the bike slid across the road.
What about those Avalanche Beacons - would something like that work for bikes?
Or a Trackside Transponder, like they use to keep score at dirt bike races...
http://www.mxtransponder.com/transponder.htm
They are small and are worn by the rider on their boot and because that's what we want to rescue - the rider.
I wonder if they could make one strong enough to send out an emergency signal.
