California C14 model from Texas dealer
I hooked up with Wormgear a week ago and I noticed my C14 (..6625) apparently has the California emmissions (gas tank vent drain can next to oil fill) even though I bought it from a Texas dealer in the Houston area. I confronted the dealer (only found a salesman) and he hounded on "it's better since it has lower emmissions"... "We are at the mercy of Kawasaki what they send us"... Sounds clueless to me.
Is this common? At least for now I plan to keep it stock and pleased in every way with the bike, but is there any reason to pursue this topic any further?

Probably a slight drop in power somewhere along the band; lower ranges I'd guess, and that's easy to fix, but if you decide to mod, just make sure you don't install the California PCIII model. It cannot be tuned in the lower part of the power band.

First of all you can tell if it is a Calif model by looking at the right side of the bike just in front of your shins. There will be a black plastic canister with a bunch of lines coming out of it.
Then if it is the only thing that is different is the evaporative system, No power difference has ever been recorded on any Kwak.
Removing the system is a cake walk. There are lines coming from the tank and the TBs. Removing the evap and vacuum canisters and plugging some lines makes it exactly like a 49 state model. With the added benefit of having lines from the 2 and 3 TBs that you can use for sync.
Nevada bike are all Calif equipped.. The net result is I have a pile of canisters and a bunch of tubing that is quite usable for other things.

My pleasure. I have been dealing with the evap systems since 85 with my first Ninja. They are the same to this day. On carbs they would cause trouble because they could get plugged with fluid and not vent properly and make the bike surge. The big difference is there is an extra line coming out of the tank for the fumes to return. That is why the warning about overfilling the tank. Plugging that line allows you to fill the tank like a 49 state model. Then just removing the hoses and plugging the source and it is all good and you get rid of a few lbs of crap.

I learned something yesterday myself. The stock muffler does not have a cat in it. Didn't we all think it did? Or was it just me.....

Thanks Ted. You are the Jedi Master.
I think I'll just leave it until it gets in the way. More fun to ride than worry about it.
Worm, you doin some surgery on the stock pipe to shorten it? That's already been done.

There is one for sure in the collector. But rumor had it that there was another in the muffler and that's not true.
