Am I that old?
I will sure be embarrassed after someone tells me what you mean by "flies out". Am I that old? Any other good slang out there?

Here it is: Flies out means zip down your fly and whip it out. Opps sorry, wrong forum. It means removing the secondary butterflies from the throttle bodies and putting the control of the throttle opening up to you. The gain at low end it reported to be dramatic.

What's this? Ted... I've been using your first description of flies out since I first heard about it and It DOES give me a major low end gain.
Hmm. I'll have to look into that throttle body thing too.

Reported to be is an understatement Ted ol' boy...it IS DRAMATIC; almost as much as the ZX14 is with the same mod.
You can all think me for that too 
I was jabbering about it long before anyone had the balls to try it. Just a carryover from the ZX14...
Hell, even Fishy said "it's an ST bike, not a racer"... 
They crucified me on concourse.org, and then realized they were all about to eat crow, lot's of it too...:P
I think wormgear was one of the 1st to do it after me -- a converted believer!

I'm still old.
I see the reference (second one) in so many threads, it seems like people think it's the first reference they are talking about (how often they whip it out). Anyone can say anything to impress peers. I have struggled with carborators over the years (mostly to clean em out), and it is such a pain to get the damn racks out and back in without problems, I can hardly believe all those braggers are actually doing it unless you need it on the track. And if you are trying to get low end power...for the track.. where revs are king???... every one of these rockets can do a space shuttle lift-off from just above idle. I just don't get it. Come on Steve, why bother unless you like playing with them instead of riding them. Perhaps you are stuck in the north dealing with snow ( it was 70 in Houston today), then I can understand way too much time and money on your hands. What was it? "My dog's bigger than your dog".

Until you own or ridden one -- you've really no idea what you're talking about in regards to this issue. No one actually needs that low end power on the track -- it's in the streets that you need this --and where did you see me say I was using my C14 as a track bike anyway?
Frankly, I don't give a fuck about dogs -- just about getting more power where it counts...
Now - go ride one and tell then let me know about the deliberate lack of low end grunt in factory form. Maybe then you'll understand why you'd want an extra 20+ FT LBS of RWTQ at 3000 RPM, right around where this bike actually lives most of the time while cruising, or taking off in 1st.
Insofar as the work required to actually perform the mod, an hour with a good screwdriver works just fine...so why do you think so many of us are doing this mod? You think it's about bragging rights? Maybe read the posts from many of us who've done this mod...

I agree with FBA -- another 20 ft/lb @3500 rpm is a VERY streetable gain.
However, even though the "flies out+PCIII" mod has been WELL PROVEN-- I'm hoping the factory will provide us with the "off road ECU" Dragonkeeper mentions in this thread from Concours.org:

Never intended to offend your need-for-speed. Just the term "flies" is foreign to an "Old Guy" who is finally introduced to FI and flies since I have been stuck in time warp.... remember slide Mikuni carbs? For me, the C14 is a big step. For many of you, it's a big horse that has flaws. To each his own. You want perfection. I want perfection. I guess it depends on your definition of perfection.
And by the way FBA, I know what I'm talking about ... in the being an Old Guy topic.

defrazier, If you live in Houston and have a c-14 I'd be happy to meet up with you and do some lower rpm roll ons' next to you. You will then see what it's good for. I could also show you what an easy mod it is.

So, considering the dates mentioned above, a CARBURATOR is one of the toys they gave us to play with when I was a youngster. None of this ECU black box, fuel mapping and "flies" jargon. All we had were SLIDES, FLOAT BOWLD, PILOTand MAIN JETSand yes.. a CHOKE. We too relied on things called magazine articles that told us how to guess at what to change (Internet was not invented by Al Gore yet). Manuals? We don't need no stinking manuals. The writers of those articles told us; To go faster, you had to throw on a KERKER exhaust. Then you had to screw with the CARBURATORS and never get it right... eventually going back to stock. To complicate matters, there were also things called POINTS and CONDENSER, that were kind of important to make em go too. Most of the fortunate ones like me, owned a TIMING LIGHT and MERCURY CARB STICKS.

In addition to more get up and go during take off, the need to downshift to pass is greatly reduced near 3500-4K rpm. In fact, even in 6th gear, around 3500rpm, there's rarely a need to downshift any more.
You do have to be more careful coming out of corners, especially in lower gears.

I'm not saying you don't -- just that unless you've ridden a factory stock C14, you wouldn't really understand why we pull the flies. Sorry if my was comment was misunderstood..anyway, I guess you know what the term "flies"means now...

Hello Gents,
I am PCS'ing to Germany this MAY08. I wondering if somone can point me in the direction of where I can find a "How to Remove the Secondary Butterflies from Throttle Bodies for Dummies" guide wth pics? Is there anything else that needs to be done along with doing this processor or do you just literally remove the secondary butterfiles and that's it? Any assistance would be appreciated.
