More possible V4 CBR1000RR speculation

"Carlos Checa has been pursuing a ride on the new V4 Honda FireBlade next year in the Ten Kate squad, and he will officially sign a deal to partner reigning British superbike champion Ryuichi Kiyonari this week."

From here:

http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/sport/sportresults/mcn/2007/september/sep24-30/sep2607motogcarloschecaclosesinontenkatehondadeal/

That's a positive "slip-up".

However I didn't realize Checa hasn't won a race since 1996! Maybe signing him isn't such a good idea. It goes to show how much being Spanish just gives you a seat in GP.

Pics have been out of a vf 1000 could be photoshopped image if not..

I hade a 84 VF1000 with nos -never worked except twice and the second time it hit ripped the water pump out of the left side of engine case called it my 'nosceptor" It was a love hate bike experience-very smooth with no real hit anywhere that is what I missed coming off a GS750 with a Kerker and K&N pods the VF1000 was quicker and faster just very deceiving and the Vance and Hines pipes never really sounded very good.

I thing it was in ''86 or '91 not sure when they redesigned the VF750 with a different firing order I had a hankering for one but a crappy job and no money back than.

i secretly wish for either another cbx or a V6 both in 1200 cc configuration I still dream of a cbx with a 6 in1 D&D,Kerker or Supertrapp. I have never heard a bike since that sounded so good when working the rev's

Come on Honda build one a V5 or straight 5 will be okay too!

A 998cc V4 would be sweet, something different in a sea of inline 4's and few V-Twins.

I hope they would, if it is indeed a V4, be able to get the weight down under the current literbikes.

Well, I can talk about this new bike now. All the pics you have seen are crap. They are close (the head on shots anyway), but all the other info you have read about is wrong.

The new 1000 IS NOT a CBR. It has been rebadged an RC and it is a 75 degree V4 and it was designed to do one thing. Beat the Suzuki's here in the U.S.

How do I know this? There is a new RC sitting at Erion Honda's shop having an exhaust system built for it right now!

More rumors.................

http://www.vtec.net/news/news-item?news_item_id=700747

"RC61 Rumors
Speaking of World Superbike, a rumor that has been gaining steam is that Honda is developing a successor to the cult-favorite and racing icon RC51. Internet hearsay suggests that the RC61 will be a 1200 cc v-twin designed to compete toe-to-toe with the forthcoming Ducati 1098R in the various superbike championships around the world.

It doesn't seem to make very much sense for Honda to develop an all-new bike to contest WSBK when the 1000RR has proven to be a worthy platform for the task and Honda has publicly stated that they are staking their 2008 superbike hopes on the 1000RR. By running the mass-produced 1000RR Honda saves significant money and achieves the coveted goal of 'win on Sunday, sell on Monday'. A 1200 cc RC61 could very well be a strong seller for Honda but it may also cannibalize 1000RR sales. However, maybe Honda has made a 1200 cc bike as a sort of 'ace-in-the-hole' should the new Ducati 1098R or the forthcoming KTM RC8 prove to be too strong for the 1000RR.

For my money a few other possibilities could be:

The RC61 is not a RC51 successor at all. Note that the Interceptor carries the 'RC46' moniker and the Interceptor is way overdue for a redesign. It could just be that the new prototype bike that some may have spotted is the next gen Interceptor.

The other more tantalizing possibility is that the RC61 is the V5 superbike that has been rumored for some time. Perhaps it will be a technological high-performance showcase like the NR750 was. In the case of the NR750, it was also known as the RC40.

Whatever the truth behind the rumors is, it seems almost certain that Honda is cooking up something."

The plot thickens, thanks alot War B.

One of the pics that leaked has a frontal shot, looking through the opening in the fairing you see one pipe. I can see it being a V4 as only one pipe visible; they don't have to be right up on each other. But an inline4 you most likely will see two or three as they are very close together.

Only thing is the released pic says CBR on it, could it be to throw us off?

And why does Erion have one? Are they running Superbikes next year? Will Hayes be back with them? So many questions, one more day to go until the official info is released.

A V4 Literbike would finally shake things up. In 2006 all the Literbikes were so similar in layout, design, power, and weight. Eventually Ducati will up the displacement of the 1098 to 1198cc so they will have a competitive V-Twin and now, hopefully, we will have a Honda V4. Could we then see a mass produced Ducati 998/999cc V4 next to their 1098cc V-Twin?

In this day and age there is no excuse for literbikes of 150+ rear wheel hp to leave the factory without trac-control. In the 90's Rumors were all over the GP grid of HRC developing TC for their NSR500.

A few years ago it was announced on the then new RC211V.

It found it's way to WSB, you could even buy a customer system from Motec for $80,000.

Yosh developed a system without wheel sensors in AMA.

This year Bazaaz is introducing a system for under $1,000 and it's apparently stock on the ZX10R for 2008. No more excuses Suzuki, Honda, or Yamaha.
