losing tire pressure

I post this at the risk of sounding stupid. Having no self respect anyway, I don't care.
I ride 50 miles round trip to work almost everyday, in addition to some more fun rides thrown in. I didn't ride for a few days due to some back spasms this week. When I got on my bike yesterday, the front was flat. Honestly, I only check the tire pressure about twice a month, so I could have been losing pressure for a week.
Anyway, I aired it up (the back was a bit low as well) and checked for leaks with soapy water. I found about a dozen leaks in both tires. These are barely noticeable. I have never seen this many leaks in a tire.
The tires are Conti-Motion (yeah, I know, sport touring. But they have served me well in my commuting, as well as some twisties) that are nearing the end of their tread life, but not totally shot.
Anyone had similar issues?

My first thought is how old are these tires? It doesn't matter when you bought them look at the date of mfg on the side wall and see how old they are. For them to be seeping in that many places I suspect that they are old tires.

When checking with the soapy water did you also check the valve stem?

They must be leaking around the bead........

I'd think that their also leaking around the bead. I also ones had that happen to me. Then I removed the tire and put it on again and everything was ok after that. Probably the tyre hasn't mounted the way it should...

By him stating that he found leaks in the tires I assumed that it was either in the tread or side walls. I have seen plenty seap through the side walls in multiple places.

I guess I should have noted that the leaks were in the tread. The manufacture dates are 2711 and 3711, so only 2 years old.
After about 30 hours, and 100 miles, the tires have dropped from 42 psi to 35psi/front and 40psi/rear. They were inflated when cold, and checked just now cold.

I have been losing tire pressure also.... Every time I check my rear its at 18lbs... Great for launching hard but not so great in the twisters or carrying a passenger. Going to replace my tires with Michelin's

ryn0cer0s:

Like Seno, my tires also lose psi if the bike sits for several days (think 1 to 1.5 psi), but not nearly to the degree to your experiencing. My 1st set of Metezler's got more temperamental about holding psi at the end of their tread life also, but NOTHING like what you are reporting.

When you replace with new ones hopefully they will seal better. For the record I run 31/35 in the summer temps of Florida with no problems typically. We'll see how it goes in northern Cali when I move there next week.

Good luck getting it sorted,

I got my tires today. I hope to get them mounted on Saturday. Thanks for the input.
Without riding, it is only losing 1-2 psi per day. When I ride, I lose about 5.
I like to keep them at the recommended pressure since 95% of my miles are highway miles.
