Texas Mile

It has been 5 years since I have been on this site. I totaled my '06 zx14 late in 2008, spent the next 5 years in federal prison, and am just now getting acclimated to a decent 2008 zx14. Today was the first time I pushed the bike a little. I had it banging out in 1st and 3rd and finally realized that I needed to shift. Just joking, I really need to know the particulars for the Texas Mile..

Is there a best place to park?: What is the nearest motel? Anything that after the fact I would have said to myself, "damn I wish I would have known"?

I have already registered @

http://www.texasmile.net/profile.php

I work in Hewitt Texas, and live in Milford Texas. I use the bike to commute.

All I needed @ Little River/Academy Drag strip was ankle boots and a Jacket..

I will belong to the 200mph club @ the next sanctioned event.

I've participated at nearly every Texas Mile from Oct 2003 until i crashed in Mar 2012.

The Texas Mile owners & staff are GREAT.

You WILL have fun.
You WILL meet a bunch of very helpful participants
You WILL spend a bunch of time waiting in grid, plenty of time to talk to everybody.

but...

You WILL NOT go 200mph unless you approach this goal VERY seriously...

200mph in a standing mile is a whole lot harder than running 200 on the street.

I was gonna try and make Bonne this year, but I'm laid up recovering from knee surgery right now.

I'm rehabbin' like crazy so I can be ready for Mojave, Texas and Houston??. I can't even bend the knee enough to sit on the BMW much less the 14.

I'm doing some final tuning and messing with cam timing but the bike is pretty much ready to go.

BTW, send me your "I'm retired now" email address For some reason I only have your old work address.

Later,

Tom

do yourself a favor and go on suzukihayabusa.com, "maximum overdrive" section, "fatalities in LSR" thread.

It's kinda long but VERY worth it.

Bill Warner's death at Loring re-ignited some asphalt LSR introspection, and it ain't pretty.

200mph in a standing mile is a whole lot harder than running 200 on the street.

I appreciate the response. Something is wrong with my bike if I can't make 200 in 1/2 mile from a standing start.

All I need is a steering dampner , and leather pants.

I have had the suicide wobble on an old '78 Honda 550F, I didn't loose it, These bikes do not need them.

Anyone got some lower leathers I can borrow at the Texas Mile in October?

I will be trailering my bike. Just a 16ft utility trailer, not enclosed. I see that only enclosed traiers may be kept at the starting line where the bikes are kept.

What is the best way to comply with a Kill Switch lanyard?

I will stay outside. Wher is the best place to pitch a tent? I want one with power and water.

buy a lanyard from mps, schnitz, etc , sort that bolt to the reservoir clamp is pretty tidy, but they may not be accepted as they only release in one direction , intercept the kill switch wire for the lanyard circuit

another note on 8.3.3, don't trust a clip link , use a rivet link where you can
