i'm such a dumbass
After my 1st failure of a cometic head gasket years ago with-in a week of replacement .. And i posted it and was told how they are great gaskets and it was my fault and i was a dumbass .. So after everybody told me i did something wrong . Well i purchase 1 for my new build( being cheap ) and knowing better .. Being i fukk up the 1st time with the comectic gasket install placement on a decked surfaces .. And how an OEM gasket replaced it and never had an issue on the same head.. I did it again . Fresh deck motor with new comectic gasket and now it does what it did once before years ago .. Leaks compression into the cooling system .. Never again fukk comectic and anybody that tells me they are great gaskets .. Nothing but OEM for me ..Hell i've even reused OEM gaskets and never had this happen !!!!!!! EVER!!!!!! .. But everytime i've used a comectic all i've got was issues .. In fact i think i'll reuse the old OEM that came out of the motor after years of use just as proving point ..
Comectic if your gaskets are the only gaskets in the world i'll cut my own from cardboard and have better luck from now own ..

Its not the gasket. We have used hundreds and hundreds of Commetic gaskets and never an issue. not a single failure because of the gasket.
The zx14 needs to be final honed under torque load with a torque plate. Especially if you are using APE studs.
We had this custom torque plate made for final honing with the diamond stones on the CV-616.
The deck and cylinders distort under load.

Its one of the reasons our engines have less blow-by and make more power.

ITS A BUSA THIS TIME .. Last gasket was a zx14 .. And yes jim its the gasket . Their a reason most everybody i know have gone back to OEM cause they had issues with Cometic Even if it means getting a OEM gasket bored to fit application . And like i said i'll bet you any money you want i can put the old OEM gasket back into the bike and it will work without issue..
i'm 0-2 with cometic head gaskets both failed with-in a week and if Jesus himself told me they were great gaskets i'd still not believe .. i'd have him bless me an OEM and say thank you

Hello guys. If you need an 'OEM' gasket for a ZX-14 cut to a. 2mm-3mm sizing get with Coby Adams. They CNC cut ALL of their gaskets to size for the ZX14's. They only use stock OEM gaskets in all of their builds for obvious reasons.

Man, that sucks. Nothing I HATE more that getting deeply involved with a mechanical project just to do it over again because of something stupid. You have my shoulder of sympathy.

but what if you need a .51 2 mill gasket. oem cut out just isnt going to do it. we have never had a problem out of cosmetic gaskets.

It takes around 9 passes in 1 day or 20 miles riding at highway loaded rpm to over flow my puke bottle .. idling would take forever to overflow .. if i ran it as a dry block you'll never knew i have an issue. or if i was a drag only bike and make 3 passes a night be harder to catch the issue. it displaces the coolant with air real slowly over time . and when motor cools down from a pass everything chills out you have to run motor for a long time to get it to start pushing the water into the bottle.

interesting. Can you guys take some closeup pics of the bad head gaskets.
Are they of any particular thickness that you are having issues with?
I wonder whats going on.

One question? Do you guys spray your cometic gaskets with copper spray? I do on all my cometic gaskets. I've never had any problems at all on the bike. I use them on my race cars and if you don't spray sealant on them around water jackets they tend to leak on a car. I had a friend have a nitrous detonation on his car and it messed the head up but the cometic gaskets never blew. So I just always spray the gasket on both sides with copper spray and let it get tacky before installing.

quote: Why does Cometic recommend MLS gaskets to be installed dry?
Cometic Multi-Layer Steel (MLS) head gaskets go on dry because they are coated with a sealant. Each MLS head gasket is coated with a .001" thick Viton rubber that is bonded to the outer stainless steel layers. Adding an additional sealer can hinder the performance of an MLS head gasket.

1 i put on wet.. 1 i put on dry ...like i said i've spray painted used OEM gaskets and reused them before and never had an issue. but 0-2 with cometic gaskets
