Need help with thermostat location!

I went out to start the bike the other night and got side tracked for about half hour 45min and forgot all about my bike being started!!! When I remember the high temp was flashing and there was anti freeze under my bike. I turned it off and addressed the problem the next day in which the overflow tank was level was a tad below the low mark so I filled to where it needed to be and started the bike. The problem is that the bike now goes wright to the blinking high temp within 5min so I am thinking the thermostat must be cooked or I did some heavy internal damage!!! I want to rule out the thermostat but don't know the location and need some help to figure out what is going on any help would be great thanks Ken.

The bike should have been able to idle indefinitely but it sounds like your cooling fan didn't kick on. That sounds like the cause of the overheat or at least part of it.

As for the bike getting up to the flashing "HOT" point, I'd agree about a possible bad thermostat but did you burp the cooling system? An air pocket can act the same way.

Is the cooling system pressurizing? Do you have any flow through the radiator?

The fan works and how do you burp the system? As far as the flow and being pressurized if the thermostat is stuck in the closed position there wouldn't be any flow correct?
