Aftermarket Pistons...

We got the motor pulled out of the Gen 1 to make some improvements to the head. We're gonna go ahead and replace the rings and I was thinking about some drop in pistons.

Who's better- JE or Wiseco? About how much additional power could I expect to see? Trying to figure out of it's worth the extra $600.00 or so.

Thanks,

Mike

Well if your new pistons raise the compression a point and a half , lets say 13.5.1 you would see 10 to 13 HP gain.. But if you have milled the head and allready have 13.5.1 it's anyones guess at that point .. If you allready did mill the head skip the 600 pistons .. If you are going to spray the motor with a big shot spend the 600 for the pistons..

je over weisco all day. go ahead and drop some in. that way later on if you want to add cams you will be set as the valve reliefs on factory pistons arent deep enough to add alot of cam.

Wossner pistons! IMO best pistons made now. Email John Noonan at
john@wossnerpistons.com
Tell him I sent you, he's a great guy and will take care of you. I've used them all and the Wossner are really nice, hand polished, teflon coated skirts, and factory gas ported.

Thanks for the replies. As Lee said, it is already milled .020. Assuming I did get pistons, that would raise the CR to about, 15:1? I'd still like to run pump gas, so i'd just need a thicker head gasket for that?

I also just got some Kibblewhite SS valves for it. I'm hoping the new pistons could net an extra 8 hp. I'm not an expert on these things though- that's why i'm asking for your guys expert opinions.

No don't get a thicker head gasket ..You if want new pistons just order ones with factory CR .. That way you will still have the same CR as you do now and still run pump gas .. If the CR remains the same it's not going to make more HP with after market pistons ..But it will be safer for a bigger shot of spray and you will get deeper valve pockets if you want to add larger cams ..

I'm running wossner 13.5-1 drop ins, all the rest are kawasaki parts, valve springs, cams, rods.
Head has some work, milled 0.025 makes 209hp on Q-16. Daily driver just swap out for premium pump gas.

Call John or Alex at Wossner!
