Ohio Mile

I saw more ZX-14's at the track this time. I think there were 6 of them this time with 1 new ZX-14r that Ali brought. I had some electronics issues , but got the bike rewired for manual operation on the NOS. But I was not able to bump up the speed enough to win the unlimited nitrous class. That went to a Busa going 223 mph.

Ali went 205+ on a ZX_14r . standard setup , strapped , lowered and a gear change.

Rich went 203 mph on his 07 . That was his best to date. He is already talking about going into the motor :-0

the 14r is impressive, but you can keep up with the older bikes with a little bit of work.

I went 214 mph on the stroker , up from 212 at the April meet.

Ali went 222 mph on the same setup ( except for gearing and tire). Data log showed wheel spin in 5th and 6th on the nitrous ... looks like he may need to gain some weight.

Chad was running his bike, I think he went 212 ....

halvefast ran , but I am not sure on his numbers

But we made it back with the bikes still running , so that is always a plus :-)

now I have all winter to do some work and testing. I might even put the 14" arm on it and head back to florida for testing in feb... maybe I can get a pass in the 8's.

Roy

Thanks for the information roy, 222 is impressive, I assume that was on your bike ? putting good horsepower down on the street with a light rider is not easy. wheel spin is always a problem. what kind of tire was y'all using, and how long was the bike.

Thanks for the post, always interesting and it sounds like great fun......Isn't there a place near Dayton Ohio where they run a similar well known 'mile style' venue?

It was great to meet you Rich & Halvefast too, them boys from Texas probably ain't even home yet....they came a long ways.

Always good to see Roy, Ali and the rest of you Hooligans! We had a good time, Chad was disappointed that he had shifting issues in 5th & 6th. Seems like a bent shift fork, we'll know soon.
Chad and a 1635cc 'Busa was going back & forth for the n/a Shoot-Out winner then somehow while in the trailer Saturday night his bike developed transmission problems, found some Suzuki paraphernalia outside the trailer Sunday morning......hmm....;-)
Chad ended up winning like by .5mph. Very, very close and alot of fun.

Roys right, when you can ride the bike back into the trailer it's all good.

Brock was one of the sponsors and was there both days, always good to see him and pick his brain.

I think there was about 8 ZX14s there. There was a good looking ZRX11. That may be next just to ride.

I had a good time this weekend.

The new 14R was impressive to say the least. I think with some fresh fuel it could have gone a little faster, maybe another mph left in it but once the records started goin sky high in the 2000 class I figured it wouldn't be enough to help since I was going 2 or 3 slower on Sunday.

Extremely stable regardless of the wind, I did get pushed like others did towards the left cones but overall it was cadillac-ish in that department, which isn't a bad thing IMO.

Roy's bike was sorted out by Sunday mid-day so when I took the reigns I realized quickly that the extra umph we were putting down was overwhelming our previous/current setup. The bike felt extremely strong but the wheelspin made me feel rushed to get it to hook up while the rapidly approaching checkered flags made their way towards me. With some chassis/tire tweeks and NOTHING ELSE this thing will lay down some serious MPH in 2013. Bike has a strong chin and could take a good shot over and over. 222 with tremendous wheelspin....that day the Busa in our class earned it...but any outsider watching both of us knows as soon as this thing gets hooked up we're running over his speeds by a large margin, no offense to Mark. He's a good sport.

Good seeing everyone out there, Brock meeting up with you and thanks again.

Lotsa 14s out there....maybe we will begin seeing a change in LSR....doubtful but who knows.

Cliff,

Rich is correct - We really have it easy these days compared to most (:

Lee, THAT sounds like FUN! Am I putting 2 and 2 together... Is Ron's 14 the one you tried to drag race with a hurt shoulder, when Keith was on the Performance Center BMW?

Had a blast! Great to finally meet a bunch of people. This will be the premier LSR venue quickly, clean smooth track, loads of shutdown. And the people, I mean not a bad apple in the bunch. The cars are like walking thru a timeline of LSR history. We all can't wait to make the drive again comes spring.

My junk with Wossner drop-ins and some mild headwork (stk cams) managed 195.13mph into a pretty good sidewind on my last pass on sunday. So much I had to pull it pretty hard to keep from taking out the left hand cones on that run. All the premium weather was used up with licensing passes. All good though, I'm ready for the spring event. I will tweak it some more over the winter.

I did at the very end of the day put Glarior (Charlie) on it just to see how much I was leaving on the table.
He has never ridden my bike before, missed the 1-2 shift, clicked it back it, spun pretty hard after that and still went 197.65. I swear if we had 1 more run he would be wearing a green hat today.

Roy I'll try and clean my JUNK up for you next time , Rich, Dan & Chad, Ali and Brock thanks for hanging, and helping with procedures. See you all again soon, be safe!

One thing to remember guys: The ECTA caps the entries at 185 at the Ohio Mile, so you must Pre-Register EARLY.

If you plan to attend the spring race, you need to pre-register as early as possible. Watch the ECTA web site for details: East Coast Timing Association Web Site

FYI: Our area of the country has the highest concentration of hot-rod car enthusiasts in the United States, they are organized and very enthusiastic about their racing. If you drag your feet, you WILL lose out on a chance to compete.

Yes Brock , Roys bike was the one i tried to ride with my bad shoulders.. With LSR 200 mph + gears to hold down the front end in second gear ( Didn't help ). Still run 8.80 @ 163+ .. Keep in mind it had no body work on the bike , no windscreen, no nothing !! Didn't even have seat .. So 163 felt like a lot more ! I want to ride it again with body work and a seat .. Keith rode it one time and said i'll stick to the BMW .. I don't blame him for that , Roys bike is every hard to ride .. So when it gets too cold up there in Ohio come on down , I'm 1/4 mile from the Beach.. Do a little racing and take in Saint Petersburg beach ..

Ouch the April event is the HotRod meet? Guess that means longer lines and less runs than this weekend.

Halve,

At the June meet I made 8 passes on the 14R on Saturday. The middle meets that don't have the hotrod/streetbike meets would in theory have less traffic, but don't forget the threat of rain will usually have a significant impact on how many actually show up, regardless of the amount of pre-entrants. Some people are coming from really far away and don't want to drop that kinda coin on gas/hotels/etc only to get 1 pass in....or NONE!

Ecta does a good job of making sure you get in at least one run. I only got one run in Saturday, if we had gotten teched on Friday that coulda been 2, but it was a busy meet in Sept vs June when I went.
