Need Advice On Changing Clutches

Ok I just received my replacement clutches for my 06 zx14 from Cycle Concepts. I have the manual also. So help me out here. Basically I drain the oil, take the clutch cover off. After that i'm going to take out the clutch springs, remove the clutch plate and from there I guess the clutch fibers and steels will be accessible right? Ok in the package one of the clutch fibers is thicker than the rest of them, does that one go in first, then steel fiber, steel fiber the rest of the way? I'm sure I can do this myself but I want to make sure I don't miss something

Yes, the thick one goes at the end and is not put in the same slot as the rest if that makes sense

Hmmm thick one in first. Clutches get stacked into the slot and last one is one notch over. Just reread this

Look at the pic 4th or 5th, you'll see the last plate is staggered 1 notch over

The one with the thicker pads goes in last. And is rotated over to the next slot. The one with the bigger inside diameter goes in first......it is bigger on the inside to fit around the spring seat and spring............

So, you should have 3 different friction plates.........the one with the big inside dia. goes in first, then steel fiber steel fiber and the last one to go on one notch over is the one with the thicker pads.........:}

Also when you install the steels, watch for the sharp edge on them. They should be out...not in. This helps prevent the steels from catching on the inner hub when you let the clutch go.

Im looking at the diagraham. That bearing in the middle, do I have to take that off also to change out the fibers and steels or can I just leave that in

My bad, hope I didn't screw you up.... Thought it was opposite. BTW, a dental pick comes in handy pulling them out... sometimes they are a pain in the ass.

FYI...You don't have to drain the oil...just roll the front wheel up on a 2x4 and lean it over. just make sure sight glass is clear before pulling the cover. works real good when in a hurry at the races. The picks from schnitz are good investment for them warped steels.
