VLC Player is the the best.
I think the GoPros save their files with the extension MP4.
If you think you have got the files on the computer, do a search for any file ending in MP4 ie *.mp4
Hopefully you will see some come up. Check the dates and they should be your gopro files.
and you will be shown where they are.
Move your mouse over the files, right click and 'copy' and then 'paste' them onto your desktop. once you get used to that then you will be able to make a folder on the Desktop and then pop them in there.
NB: I said 'copy', not cut (If you make a mistake then you have the orig!). Only 'cut' when you get better.
The biggest hurdle with XP or WIn7 is where files go. MS makes a lot of stuff go into default directories/folders. Once you know how to locate files it becomes easier
MP4 - or H264 is used in Apple stuff a lot. It's basically a compression format that has good quality over the file size. And as Apple and MS are bitter enemies, Windows would prefer files like AVI and MS wants you to use WMV and MPG stuff.
Find a video convertor to make MP4 into AVI - another learning curve and then those AVI files can be viewed on virtually everything.
lastly, of course Windows should go 'dlung' when it detects a USB device just inserted and 'dling' when removed (or disconnected).

Open 'my computer'....if the window doesn't automatically open for you when you plug in the cam.See those drive icons?....click on the one that's a 'new' one....drive 'j' on mine. It'll open...you see the folder "gopro"...click on that...forget 'misc'....click now on the 'gopro' one...it'll open a new small download window...where to save it....highlight..."my videos'...now click on 'copy'(the video has to be highlighted).Let it download.(if you don't have a 'my videos' folder...'my pictures' will work...any folder will work...so long as you know where you're putting them)
NOW....unplug your cam(once it downloads).(for multiple vids...just repeat)
NOW...delete the vids by turning on the cam....push power button again till you scroll to THIS ICON(settings)(with a little wrench on it).Now use the shutter button to scroll to the 'delete' menu.....use the power button to chose your option(MORE)with three little dots on it)....push the shutter button again...now hit the shutter button to open the delete menu(two menus)scroll with the shutter button to>>>(delete all).Hit the shutter button...the cam will flash.Your done...push and hold the power button to turn cam off.
Your vids are now saved in 'my videos' folder. If you don't have a 'my videos' folder...you'll need to create one...but it should already be in your computer.
YOU CANNOT DELETE(format)the camera from your computer. You have to format(erase) the vids in the camera by doing the steps above.
Your suction mount will stay attached easily at all the way up to breakneck speeds....
You may need to record in R1...standard def mode.Your computer MAY not be able to replay true HD.Mine wouldn't.
To recharge...simply leave camera off..plug in your usb.A red light will come on...when it goes out...she's charged.BTW...whenever you have the usb plugged in...even for downloading...the cam is charging. But to get a full dedicated charge...you need to have the cam shut off.
VLC PLayer i found wanted 85 dollars ... No way ...Like i told Big Foot i know how to work the Camera .. I just can't get any program on my puter to work with it ..

The GoPro format should be viewable with the latest version of Windows Media Player. I also use the latest windows movie maker to edit.
Shane
Shane i don't want to use the sticky mount , I'm worried it may screw up the paint when i remove it ... Remember i don't keep these bikes forever .. 2 to 3 years Max and then i put them back to stock and sell them .. I'm going to use the suction cup and use some kind of safety cord just in case .. At least if it comes off it will not hit the ground ..
I have the Windows Media player , and i did do the update on it ... It still will not play the videos .. Well it might play the videos if i could find them on my Puter .. I have a new lap top and it will not work on it either ..

I have mine mounted like yours with the suction cup but i have it turned up close to the Ninja emblem ..I made a quick release safety strap so i could move it from side to side without any big hassle .. With the camera on wide 170 view you will be able to see the other lane, tree and a clear view down the track .. It seems pretty stable there and doesn't seem to bump or move much at all ..You also see the Ninja on the side of the bike so the Busa guys will know what it is ..

if you can get it from the camera to the cineform, convert it to mp4, I think it will go to your desktop, after that cineform will not see it there, but you can do what you want with it..

Very good view , that what i was looking for .. Mine is mounted a bit higher and a bit more forward .. That should do the trick .. I like how stable your video is .. I hate watching videos that move around , kind of makes you sea sick watching them ..

Did you get your files to download okay?Putting it into the card reader on the PC won't work with mine either.I have to download from the cam(from the card IN the cam).VLC WAS free....look elsewhere for their free version...that's all you need. The free one.
Use the R1 setting on your cam...std def is what it is.Video.Take cam...plug into usb port.(cam to PC)...push power button. It will open a window. Before any of this...WHAT are you using for a browser?

Smokin,
If you have found 'hundreds' of MP4 files, you need to right click the file and select 'properties'.
That will tell you the date and the size - and where the files are going.
If it's not the one you want (sample, test, got you looking into the gopro lens saying "How the fuck does this stupid fucker work?". Then you then delete them accordingly.
Depending on how you searched, you can select dates. Try selecting the date range since you got the goPro first installed.
I'd make a new folder on your Desktop (Right Click - New - Folder), and name it GoPro. Go back to search and copy all teh MP4 files into that folder. Then at least you know where they are.
Or to do it the right way and make it easier in the future (for any other things like this): Goto My computer and open up C: Drive (You shouldn't see that many folders).
Make a new one called GoPro.
Right click the new GoPro folder and choose the option - Send to - Desktop (create shortcut).
This does two things:
1) When you are asked (or given the option too), to save anything (Where the saved files are to be saved etc), you just have to type in C:\Gopro
2) As the PC boots into your Desktop, there will be a folder with GoPro shortcut etc. And so anything that you select to be saved to C:\GoPro will be there.
There is a real nice program called Crossloop. It's free. It will allow anyone (who has Crossloop installed), to view your screen as though they are there.
All it requires is a number to be entered.
No one needs to be a brain surgeon. No setting VPN stuff or firewalls etc etc.
The person in 'charge' runs crossloop. He/she sees a (maybe 10 digit), number. They tell you the number.
You (running Crossloop), type in that number and in a few moments you will get a msg from the person helping you, that they are asking permisison to have access to your PC, you select 'accept' and then the person on the other end will be looking at your desktop on their screen.
You will see you mouse moving around as they move it around from their end. Whatever they click on is as though you have clicked on it.
Obviously removing all folders with porn and satanic references should be removed...
