Rod bearing clearances

When installing rods on a ZX14 ( Carrillos in this case ) what clearances do you builders use.? The factory numbers, .0019" to .0034" seem awfully loose.

We usually set the busas up at .002"

Jay , Roy sets his zx14 1530 motor up like his small block chevy motors .002 , he has had good very luck at that number on the zx14 motors ..I set up all my Mopar big blocks to .002 also .. At that number i go to the track and let it eat and never had a problem .. In the old days i would set them up with more clearence because we didn't have the Syn oils that we have today .. I would run Aero Shell 50 WT back then ..lol

That is what we have, but it is the bottom of the Kaw spec. So everyone runs these ZX14s at .002" with Carrillos without issues?

Can't say everyone ... I just know about Roys 1530 motor .. Roy drag races and land speed races the bike .. He has not had any bearing problems after two years of setting LSR records ..But he is not using Carrillos , he is using Falicon rods ..
You might want to talk to Jim at CompetitionCNC.com. He had some problems with the Carrillo rods and bearing on his ZX14 .. I don't recall what problems he had , i just know the motor kicked a rod out of the block ..

Jim seems to like looser clearances on a big hp motor. Ive been told around .0026 or so on rods for more flow/better cooling. the spec for the 12 is nearly identical, but the service limit is .0039!
