Ported head and cams from carpenters

I live close to carpenters racing and was on the phone with bob and i was telling him i wanted more power but i still wanted it to be reliable. He told me he could port the head and get me around 10-12hp through out the range. A friend of mine with a few worked bikes told me to also drop in bigger cams. My thing is just the head porting is 2200. And with cams and spring kit its around 4000. Is it worth it and what kind of power am i lookin to get from all this. I know i just street ride but lets face it we all what as much power as we can afford.

Racing costs today more than it did twenty five years ago when Carpenter was racing. It takes every penny you have. Realizing that speed cost money, ask yourself, how fast do you want to go?

Yeah it was 10-12hp with just the head but how much more will i get with cams. And dont forget i paid about 1900 for brocks exhaust and pc and i gained 13hp.

gixxerjohn you are something else.. you have a 200hp bike and it is not enough for you??
go spend another 3-4k on cam and head job and then after couple of weeks you want more and that won't be enough for you!!

I know i am not new to the board but have been away from the bike game for sometime but im opinion i would say spend 1000-1500 on a nitrous system and a good tune and pick up 20-40hp...

I have 2 Busa's, motors built with Bob's components, just over 280hp NA
(each... hahahahaha).

That's not enough

i have considered spraying, certainly a cheaper way to get to 280, WAY fukken cheaper.

but ...
only a couple turbos are faster than me to the 1/2mile @ 201.7mph, and i purely love rolling on the throttle hard, wow!

and

Every one, and i mean EVERY one i know that sprays over 50-60 shot has melted motors, ALL of em.

On the street forget peak hp, think tq/hp from 6-10k, that's what'll put a smile on yr face.

exactly i dont need peak power i would love a jolt of power between 3-8 grand with a built engine. Forget nos i want something that will be there always just a twist of the throttle. I'm just hoping that if i put that much money out that i'll really notice it.

1bad,
i'm sure not hating on you juice users, it definitely is the cheapest way to get there.

Yes indeed, I melted Zx12 motor after motor as i developed my 1427, broke everything again and again.

i did reach my goal, fastest NA kawasaki, but at a HUGE cost.

My 2 1635 Busa motors are for my asphalt and salt bikes.

I've only burnt up one Busa motor when i put a 10A (should have been 20A) fuse by mistake on the fuel pump, it went popped and motor leaned out at the 3/4mi and fried 3 pistons. At 18.5:1 CR, there is no margin for going lean, just like nitrous.

basically i am not detail oriented enough to reliably run nitrous; i'll leave it to you guys.

john,
tell Bob specifically what yr goal is, he will design a solution.

It will likely not be cheap, but it'll be reliable.

If your street riding and occasionally racing a squid, I wouldnt bother. Why break down a perfectly good motor for street riding?

You said you live close to Carpenter Racing. Atco Raceway is just around the corner from Carpenter.

You can stop by the racetrack Tuesday , Thursday and Friday nights and check out who's racing.. There is always someone testing and fine tuning their bikes there. Maybe some of those guys won't mind sharing with you what works for them, and you can actually see them racing down the strip. Who knows, you might catch Bob testing some of his aftermarket parts.

Best way to see what works is seeing it in person at the track. Next Bike Night at Atco Raceway is June 14. I am planning to be there.

i've not melted anything on spray ever yet .. but its coming 1 day...but fuel pumps and a bad ecu had costed me pistons on my turbo bike a few times. until i went with an external fuel pump ..them fukking walbro in tank pumps got 2 sets of pistons ...by pushing out them welch plugs on the top of the pump ..

Wow i hate to say it but eklipse really kind of hit me with that comment. Maybe instead of dropping four grand more in my bike for street riding maybe i should be happy with a great engine already. Again hate to say it but thank you eklipse you make a good point. But i know in the future if a bigger busa comes out i'll need to do it then, yes i'm that guy have to have the biggest and baddest even if i dont use it all the time. But again good point eklipse.

Hell thats why most of us have sprockets, not that we need or can use more power we just like more in usable rpm range that's all.
