87,89,93

My best runs were with 87, I know weather is changing but it was still good when I tried 89 and lost 1 mph consistently, so last weekend at the 1/4 mile I brought 93, made the 8.80 pass at 153, then poured in the 93, mph dropped 1-2 and stayed there.

So this weekend I will go back to 87. also I tried pulling the air filter with no increase in mph, went from 14.1 in 5th and 6th to 13.1 with no change in mph, went from 13.5 to 12.8 in 1st through 4th , so with the short testing, Brock is right, leave the filter in and the 14r likes to run on the lean side.

Running Brocks street map and 87, results will be posted Sunday night.

I have allready got a few gallons of 89 in the bike for Thursday night testing but i'll take along a gallon of 87 with me and try it if i run low on the 89 ..

Wheelie,

GOOD FOR YOU on the pump gas testing!

***OUR*** 89 Octane works better ***HERE***

There isn't a consistent pump gas from station to station (that’s why we spend a fortune to test on MR12), much less state to state! We have sung the praises of 87 octane FOR YEARS and were as baffled as anyone when the 14R didn’t seem to like it.

Great job and keep it up. I need your education as much as the rest of these guys sometimes

What is the compression on a 14 and the 14r, is mr12 safe on 13.5 to 1?

I don't know where the 13.5:1 or 14:1 CR got started.

From the shop manual: Compression ratio is 12.0 on the older models and 12.3 on the 2012.

Wow love how everyone can spend my money that i don't have .. Two things , one i don't have a place to buy MR12 that has not be setting for years covered in dust .. Second , it's 130.00 friggin dollars for shit that is not fresh .. third i only can get to the track once a month so MR12 if it was fresh would be crap before the next time i go to the track .. BUT if you want to send me a fresh can of MR12 every month i'm ok with that ..

Looks like it’s time for MR12 - 101

If MR12 stays in a sealed metal can - it stays fresh for months. I just purchased a can that was well over a year old and it made 7 RWHP over 89 octane. OK, that's not the 9 RWHP that we see when it gets dropped off of the truck from the distribution facility, but not too bad.

If you leave it in your gas tank, which is vented, it's like leaving the lid off of the metal can and it will lose most of its strength in a couple of days. We are very careful to drain previously used MR12 out into separate metal can, so the fresh can’t get diluted or mixed with pump gas. All of our testing and mapping is performed on fresh MR12. I have a special pump and technique and the 14’s are by far the biggest PITA bikes to deal with in this regard… it’s hell to get the tank all the way dry – but we do it.

MR12 is worth a solid tenth+ and 2+ MPH in the quarter over pump gas - Period. And anyone who says otherwise simply doesn’t know how to use it/tune for it.

Note, in VERY humid conditions – I’m told it can be temperamental? But it gets humid as hell here in Ohio and we have never had any problems. Of course, we follow the above steps religiously and I’m sure the guys who ‘sort of’ make sure they aren’t mixing it with god knows what aren’t going to be as successful.

I hope this helps those who are interested understand a bit more.

I put a couple gallons of 87 octane in my bike and it pings under 4k rpm. Can't tell about high rpm but its real noticeable when you roll into the throttle under 4k. I won't be using 87 in the bike anymore.

At the track waiting for them to open, I have some 87 octane ready to try, density altitude is 2445 right now mid 80 degrees with low pressure, I still have some 93 in the bike, will make a pass and start adding the 87 watching the mph, numbers will be posted later.

Well I added a little 87 and the gas gauge stopped flashing so I never had 100% 87, da was terrible compared to last week, I didn't see any change in mph, so I would say run the extra octane just to be safe 89 or 93.
