Brock's CT Meg installation,,, lots of pics

Installed my CT Meg this morning.

It's a tight fit for sure but the mid pipe is a bit too tight. No matter how I tweak and twist I can't get any clearance. Maybe I need to "adjust" the muffler hanger?

Anyways,,, here are the pics.

Not much thread engagement on the flange nuts.

Clearance Issue.

Nice. I hope to get my pipe by Tuesday and installed by Wednesday. Did you have to shim the radiator?

Are those thick header clamps wheat came with the pipes? If you look at the pictures of Brocks bike at the show he has much thinner header clamps than what you are using.

Vince12,

Please call EJ-- 9379120054 at extension 110.

My guess is that you may have tightened all of the flanges completely before you installed all of the headpipes?

The spring tabs at the elbow pipe should be inline.

... and I hate to say it, but it looks like your studs may have been installed in reverse from the factory
The short end should be in towards the engine. But, what you have will be fine as long as they tightened up ok.

Vince12,

Since we are closed. For proper assembly: Pre-assemble the exhaust (both headpipes and secondary collector), the flange nuts should be slightly snug to allow the spigots to 'float' and find their home. Install the exhaust, snug the nuts with a wrench. Remove the exhaust and tighten the nuts to spec. Reinstall the exhaust (you should never have to force, bend, use tools, rubber hammer etc!), install elbow pipe to align with spring tabs and secure with springs. Mount muffler and secure remaining springs.

Let me know if this helps. DO NOT START YOUR BIKE UNTIL YOU HAVE CONFIRMED BODYWORK CLEARANCE. Our systems are over-sized and tight to the engine, but they do fit - very well.

**But** they are hand made BY HUMANS and we all make mistakes. If there is any doubt about fitment, we will send you a UPS call tag and get you another pipe on the way to you ASAP.

Brock,

I hope this thread didn't make me look like I was bitching,,,, I am Very happy with my purchase. I've installed lots of aftermarket parts for my cars and bikes over the years and usually they require lots of tweaking to fit just right.

The clearance issue was completely my fault. When I installed the muffler hanger I didn't notice the top bolt hole is slotted for some adjustment. I was able to move the hanger and gain the proper clearance.

Do you know if the exhaust studs are threaded or pressed into the head? Everything is tight now and I think it will be fine,,, I'll just keep an eye on em.

Vince12,

WHEW! Our CT's are perfect (built ON/IN precision fixtures... they CAN'T be wrong!) --- but people aren't. You had me sweating, I thought we had mixed up some parts on you.

They are threaded. You can double nut them and just unscrew them a little if you want.

Sorry Brock,,, didn't mean to make you sweat. Haha

If the nuts come loose I'll probably just back them out a bit or get longer ones. I think they'll be fine though. Thanks again Brock.

Looks awesome there...thanks for your pics. One question however....gonna sound stupid most likely...but....the rubber/plastic spring covers at the exhaust ports....won't those start melting and make a mess?(maybe)???Sitting against that way hot pipe right there? My stock pipes turned deep blue right along the first 7 or 8 inches going downward.I can't imagine that plastic holding up for long?

I,m installing my ct single and was concerned about minimal threads engaging as well. I did as Brock suggested and double nutted the factory studs and removed them, then went to local parts store bought longer ones.....much better! Figured I did not want to chance it and have to take it completely apart again to do what i can do now while I have it apart.
Why is there always time to do it twice, But never enough time to do it right?...

I checked my 14R and the exhaust stud extends just over an inch from the head. Does anyone know what the correct length should be in order to have the full threading of the fasteners to the CT header?

Probably 1.5"

Next time I have mine apart I'm gonna replace the studs. They are staying tight but I like the peace of mind not having to worry about them.

Vince, the stud on my stock exhaust fully threads through the nut. with the approx. 1 inch of exposed stud. Brock's exhaust is very high quality and I can't imagine that it won't work and allow full thread engagement with the factory installed studs. i would really like to know what's going on before I order this exhaust.
