MIchigan just passed No Helmet Required law
Michigan finally passed the No Helmet law. Its been in the in the house and senate for a long time. It passed under the guise that Michigan looses tourist dollars due to the helmet requirement. So here are the new rules...you are not required to wear a helmet if:
you are over 18,
have had your cycle endorsement for more than 2 years or passed a rider safety course,
have at least 20K worth of optional medical coverage on your motorcycle insurance policy.
Riders were out in force today riding with no helmets.

Coming from TX, riding well over 100k miles on my bikes with not one crash and didnt regurarly wear my helmet. Now I live in washington, Last year during a every day left hand turn at low speeds I screwed up and high sided my 14, bike edjected me far into the air, landed on my head and shoulder sending my collar bone poking out of my skin and bashing in my helmet. Good chance I would have had major brain injuries without my helmet according to the ER doctor. Helmet law here most likely saved my life.
Funny part to me was I always thought id crash at high speeds not 25-30 mph. After going through that ill never get on a motorcycle without a Good helmet on again.

When i was in the UK, and there was no seatbelt law. I used to tell my mates and my mum and dad (when i had to drive here and there), "Use your seat belts". I had a few mates who called me many names: But i said,"You want to ride in this car, you wear a seat belt!".
No one knows when a crash is going to happen. Too many people think they are 'bullet proof'.
However, a bit of a media beat up and there is more to the posters headline:
["Motorcyclists who want to ride without a helmet must be 21, and have passed a motorcycle safety course within the past two years.
The new requirement also is a boon for the insurance industry: motorcyclists must carry at least an additional $20,000 in medical insurance"].
If you want to ride without a helmet, or allow someone to ride without a helmet, then sign a disclaimer that releases the state from all medical responsibilty from your 'crash induced mental incapacity'. And prevents your 'helpers' from receiving state benefits....
Ride and Wear to be safe!

Let me preface by saying that I always wear all my gear: helmet, jacket, gloves, boots, and sturdy riding pants. Indiana has no helmet law, but that doesn't affect my riding decisions.
Now with that said, I am so relieved that they passed a law that let's YOU choose what gear you ride with. I am very glad that they passed a law that INCREASES our freedoms. We (more specifically "I") don't need our government "protecting me from myself."
It seems that we are losing our individual freedoms on a daily basis and its nice to see something go through the government that actually let's me make a decision for myself.
I have said that it seems that the government is eventually going to outlaw some of the activities that I enjoy:
Riding a high-powered motorcycle
Grilling with charcoal (my babyback ribs are the bomb)
Smoking Fine Cigars (I only smoke about two a month.)
We are fast approaching a totalitarian form of government......I know there is no "hope" but maybe there is still a chance.

believe me that goverment does not give a damn about you or me... it is all about what puts more money in their pockets...and this is a good example of why they did that..
or should i say that they double the price of ciggaretts because it is bad for your health.. well why don't they quit making it if it is so bad for us...!! all good reasons to make more money and they think people all are stupid to believe ....

The problem with the no helmet law is it doesn't just effect those not wearing a helmet. Every time someone mashes their brain without medical insurance, it's picked up by those of us who are responsible enough to have insurance...... then again, people could say that about riding motorcycles in general..... I don't know the answer, but I'll never ride without a helmet, I think that's foolish.

I can't ride without a helmet, feel total naked, seen too many deaths that they could have just picked up the bike and rode away. Utardia doesn't have a helmet law, not to bright of a state. Then again Mother Nature needs a way to clean the gene pool after Pennicllin came out.

that holds no water
if they don't have insurance .. then how does the insurance rate goes up .. there was no claim .. and if they don't pay the hospital and doctors ..then how come health care is booming in the job market and hospitals are expanding .. i can say I've never seen a hospital shutdown and not get re-open bigger and better .. but when asprins are $20.00 a pill and a over night stay in a room cost $5,000.00.. somebody is getting fukk ..but its all legal since doctors have lobbist
back about 70 years ago doctor's rode to your house and treated you and charged $10.00.. then somebody seen what a racket they could turn that into.. its simple greed at its worst making money off another mans misery...
i don't blame the doctors but the schooling system that charge them 1,000,000.00 before they ever issue 1 pill to treat not cure a health issue.. ever wonder why its called a practice.. .. then theres all the other leaches behind the scenes that make money by enforcing rules and regulation

I live in Iowa, riding in Illinois and Wisconsin mostly where there are no helmet laws. I can tell you from experience it only allows you to spots idiots easier. NO Harley guys would be caught dead with a helmet, and plenty of sport bike guys don't even own one. I've heard all the excuses from, "it limits my visibility/hearing!" to the classic, "it will break your neck!"
It's like listening to my 6 year old son make excuses when hes trying to stay up past bedtime.

The hospitals get practically all their funding from insurance. When someone doesn't pay their bill, because they don't have insurance, they charge more to the ones who do, i.e. the insurance companies. This doesn't hurt the insurance companies, because they just charge you and me more. After all, it is now illegal not to have insurance, Big Brother Obama took care of that.
IMO, if you ride without a helmet, and you get into a serious wreck, just harvest the organs to pay for the EMS team that scrapes you off the pavement.

Like most that have ridden for any (or a long) time, I've ridden w/o a helmet on numerous occasions. It's an awesome experience and I love it. Nevertheless, it's dumb, dumb, dumb. It's been a long time and I'll never do it again.
The lesser known 11th commandment (Particularly appropriate on Sun. before church.): "Wear thou thy motorcycle helmet whensoever thou rideth." And God saw that it was good (A little commandment action combined w/a little creationist editorial. Nice!).

do you really think insurance companies pay the full tab on a hospital bill .. so let me understand this right..if john don't pay me for mowing his 10 acre yard ..i can charge henry for it when i mow his 1 acre yard.. and its perfectly legal .. i know i can file on john's credit report for not paying ..
ok ..if thats the thinking ..then hitler was right ..harvest all your undesirables for organs.. i have no problem with that .. but who gets to pick the undesirables is my issue.. the same fat bastards that own the hospitals.. or the rommey's and obama's or the kennedy's of this world .. maybe newt or ron paul

Wow, some people have no idea how the medical industry works.
Insurance is the driving force behind hospitals and healthcare in general.

Ok, so it's down to personal choice to turn yourself into a vegetable or not. I'm all for personal choice but I remember last time I hit the road, a few years back, I knew my shoulder joint was destroyed as soon as I got up but would have sworn on a stack of bibles that my head hadn't hit the road - until I took my helmet off and saw the damage it had sustained. That would have been my head.
When you make that choice about helmet or no helmet remember it affects your family and loved ones too if you get it wrong.
