Setup questions

Should be receiving my Adams extended stock arm in the next week or so for my 08. In the process of looking for a new chain haven't quite decided how long I should go on it it will go to 9 over I was thinking about setting it at about 8 over my question is on a stock shock, stock motor with Brock's exhaust and pc3 would that be a correct length for a good hookup ik I can always shorten it up if it spins also I'm currently -1 in front stock back prob get a +3 in the rear?I'm about 220 suited and final question would a 150 link chain be long enough for that setup?
Thanks for any advice!

I have mine set at 68-69 inches roughly I had the stock shock brocks exhaust pc3 -1 front +1 rear, and mine hooked 90% of the time and we have poor track conditions where I race. I say I am about your size as well. Not shur on the chain but I think it will be long enough..

150 will be plenty, mine sits almost 9 over and I had several links left over with the 150 I bought.. And just my opinion but, get a good chain, most of us run EK ZZZ. And as long as you are running a good tire you will have no problem hooking at that length. Your budget and preference guides your tire decision really, I run a Hook-Up and I love it, others don't like them at all. If you have money to burn a Michelin Pilot Power 1 is what all the Pro Street guys run.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Good info, so the pilot power 1 has the most grip for a street legal tire?

i had a hook up on my gixxer 2 yrs ago the thing hooked every time with barely a burnout never used michelin before cant justify buying a 250 dollar tire that im gonna burn off anyways...for casual use at the strip imo you cant go wrong with the hook up. thanks for the info guys

u think +1 in the rear will be enough gear at my size?

thanks

I agree on the Hook Up, I love mine, and I can't justify the price of a Power 1, just giving options.

And gearing is truly subjective. Some people like a lot of gear, some don't. It really depends on your riding style and what you are comforatable with. I run 16/43 and I really like it, but I am 170ish unsuited. If you decide to try more gear let me know, I have a brand new Vortex 46 tooth I would part with cheap. I bought it and never even installed it because I was comfortable with the 43.

I am not sure about that, but like I said the Pro Street guys are hooking almost 500hp with it on the nitrous bikes and probably a lot more than that on the turbo bikes. But like I said, my personal preference is the Hook Up, it is a great bang for your buck. I can get those shipped for around $130, the cheapest I have seen a Pilot Power 1 is just under $200 on sale.

Like Dakota said the ZZZ is an awesome doesn't stretch alot, it's the lightest oring chain with high tensile strength. I used the hook-up tire with my turbo busa and the u-soft on my zx12 those Shinko tires have worked great for me the only thing I think you have to be careful with the hook up is to not got low on tire pressure on like a 300 hp bike because the side wall is so soft, the Hook-up is great for track use but wouldn't recommend it for street use it won't last that long you can use the u-soft you'll get more wear time with only a little sacrifice of grip. The greatest thing is you can get shinko's delivered to your door for around 120's to 130's. The Michelin is a 200. plus tire that wears just as fast as the hook-up

I think ama guys used it because it was lighter than a shinko, shinko has a wide contact patch.

As far as gearing, they are correct in above post. It's a personal preference.
I'm at about 66" (8") and I'm -1 +7 (16/48) and I love it. It's easy for me to make the bike dead consistant. Now if I was 2" shorter on wheelbase, it would be too much.
I also believe the lower gearing helps on Clutch wear because your not sliding the clutch nearly as long. That's just my $.02 though.
Ekzzz is the way to go. I haven't tightened mine in almost a year. It's still as snug as it was last time I tightened it.
If your not sure on gearing, try 16/44, that will put you in the middle of high/low. Then you will know which way to go.
Btw, I'm 215 suited as well.

I am roughly 8" over using 6"-9" extensions (welded into swingarm) stock shock, stock exhaust with slip ons, PC3, using EK DRZ 2 chain (non o-ring), 16/45 gearing, I am 230 suited. I am consistant 1.48's 60 foot. I tightened up the rear shock all the way on compression and rebound screws, doesnt hit the under side of tail section. I wish I would have gone 10"-12" over, I still dont think it would spin. Also I run nitrous for the "oh shit" factor, when using it I am at top of 6th gear through traps. When im not using nitrous im right at top of 5th (almost at redline) in 1/4 mile, its a perfect gear setup (16/45) for me.

What is nice about the shinko's is the fact you don't have to run as low tire pressure depending on hp level because of the fact it isn't a peaked tire like a regular street bike tire at 15 to 17 psi you get close to five inches or so of contact patch that is the main reason the shinko's are such a good tire and minimum amount of dimples in the tire means the tire grips better but I wouldn't be getting to aggressive in wet weather.

Like everyone else said 150 links, you will have plenty left over. Oh and I am also running the Shinko and love it, especially the price. Mine is strip only no street.

I run my Hook Up on the street, lots of 170-180 mile days and it last as long as the U-Soft did.

Both the ZVX2 and the ZZZ are both awesome chains about the same tensile strength, just the ZVX2 is a little cheaper and a little heavier, the ZZZ has little holes in every side plate that is where the weight reduction, every side plate X 150 links it's quite a difference. I think the ZZZ is about thirty dollars more. The tensile strength of ZZZ is 11,100 lbs on a 530 the ZVX2 10560 lbs on a 530.
