During a recent test by Motorrad magazine they found that a standard ZZR 1400 beats the BMW 1000 in horsepower (206 hp vs 197hp at the crank) and has a slight advantage in acceleration (0 - 125 mph). This was tested and written by a (renown) German magazine which has shown a bias towards BMW for several years...........

The Brocked out BMW with MR12 and JT piloting it went 8.44 at 161. 8.4's is about what guys with similiar mods are going on the 14R, correct? Apples to apples with the same rider, i'm sure the 14R is gonna be a lil' quicker in the 1/4 because of the difference in torque.

I heard the bmw that went 8.44 had the SS head package but either way there's plenty of people with the brand new 14r ready to kick the bmw ass

I have raced two different S1000s in 3rd & 4th gear roll ons. 1st one was stock but bike and rider he was 100lbs lighter and beat him easily. The 2nd was with a fancy pipe power commander mapped by Dyno Jet themselves we were about even on weight bike & rider combines and I also easily beat him in both runs. So the answer is the BMW is not as fast stock or warmed over than the stock 14R.

The 14 is quicker not faster I know I own both. The 14 will beat in a roll to 186 then the s1000 walks by depending on wind conditions.

I don't ride a magazine either and yes I am sorta like wolverine a beast.

Of course the BMW will walk by as the 14R hits the soft limiter at 183 and stops at 186. De-restrict the 14R and your S1000 will be toast!

Seems to be correct as the same aforementioned magazine tested the Beamer for top speed and it reached 305 kph (+/- 190 mph). The 14 ran into the limiter at 298 kph (+/- 186 mph). The BMW has no top speed restriction (here in Europe) as where the 14 is limited to 186. They also took the bikes to the Volkswagen windtunnel and did a very elaborate research on the aerodynamic properties of the bikes and found that of the bikes with rider
the Hayabusa came out on top narrowly followed by the (old) ZZR1400 (difference of +/- 0,5 mph top speed capabillity for the same theoretical amount of rwhp). This clearly showed that the ZZR will be faster than the BM if derestricted for top speed.

If u read my quote I said 186 also the s1000 does 192 gps at the limiter. The bike stock for stock is as I stated the zx is quicker to 186 and yes the bmw does have a higher top speed. That's like saying ok lets regear the bmw for a higher top speed and lets get rid of the restrictor. It's kinda pointless because where does it end. Turbo kits, nitrous, internal mods, bolt ons. They r both fast as shit. The 14 is a much better bike in my opinion in the fact it's actually practical as far as comfort and ease of getting the power down. The s1000 you have to ring its neck out to get the most out of it and fight the front wheel when in slick mode. The bmw has the worst suspension of all my bikes and that's my opinion. It practically breaks my spine going over small undulations. The zx iis much less dramatic in its build up of power. As the weight and balance along with the engineering towards high speed cruising was left in mind. The bmw honestly feels like its going to break at any moment I never fully trust the bike. Me weighing 250lbs doesn't really help things.

Yes he can but he needs to get real with his pricing because if Flash-tune ever gets the 14 ECU figured out Don will be out of business with the 14 community.

dozerdogue -

Interesting that you say that. I traded my '10 S1000RR for the '12 14R and haven't looked back. The 14R is a much better "real world" bike, UNLESS you race or do regular track days, which I do not. Yes, the suspension on the BMW is less than ideal, very harsh. I'm under 140 lbs. so you can imagine the beating I took. You do have to wind up the BMW, but it's vicious above midrange. The 14R, well, it's almost like it doesn't have a power band. It's like a hammer to the head at any rpm. I've owned a dozen or so BMW's and liked them all, but they all had their share of niggles, unlike most of the Japanese bikes. I, also, never felt like I could trust the bike. The fact that I was on my 3rd left hand switchgear didn't help matters.

Rode the BMW last year at a bike demo. It was pretty impressive for sure. You have to admire what it can do with now close to 50% less displacement than the 2012 ZX-14R.

It would be scary if BMW had the same level of tunning on a 1400+cc version.

In car terms, if I beat a car with 50% less displacement than the car I was driving, I wouldn't exactly feel like I had done much.

Also, a 14R is not exactly going to be even remotely competitive with the BMW on a road course with riders of the same talent. So it is probably down to the rider in a drag race, but on a road course no contest, the BMW will run away and hide. So which bike truly has the more rounded performance?

Fast in a straight line is only one attribute that makes a bike interesting for me. It has to handle the curves as well.

I don't own my '06 14 anymore, but did enjoy it very much while I did.

I've heard the the zx-14r rails pretty darn good ..... and if your over 200 lbs it hurts the acceleration of the litre bikes... fastest bike in a straight line... all day comfortable... pick up zx-14r in exactly 3 weeks..
