What gas to use on the street???

Per kawa i was using above 90 which in new jersey is 92 octane. I hear guys always saying to use 89 octane,on the old 14 i used 87 but the new one it says to use over 90. I just street ride should i just be safe and use 92 or is 89 better. Thanks in advance!!!

My 07 says to use 90 but in the summer it runs on 92-93 and winter I run 89. The bike doesnt run as good on the street with 87, runs a bit warmer. I recommend 89, 92-93 for street riding.

I've got an '09 but have the head cut to bump compression. I run premium on the street because I ride two up alot and also ride in the mountains around here.
While I don't lug the bike I don't always keep it spinning and like the higher octane just for insurance.
Momma Kaw might be conservative and are playing it safe but they are the folks who design & build them, I'd have no issue follwing their advice.

I used premium (92) or 89. I couldn't ever tell a difference between the two even after 12k miles.

Since I run around town lugging the thing most of the time I run 93 Octane with a little seafoam every few tanks. Keeps thing flushed out nicely.

Well, I suppose if Kawa says 90, then 92 is the safer option to prevent detonation and the risk of holes in pistons.
Am I right in saying the higher the compression, the higher the octane rating that is required ? And the ZX14r does have a high compression ratio.

eklispe, i find it hard to believe that u are running 87 octane with a compression ratio of 13.1 or 13.5 which ever is tthe case. Are u asking for trouble? Why not pay a few eextra pennies to protect urself from the deadly detonation? Yes, you can get by for awhile but misshift or hit the rev limiter and u cud be asking for trouble. I really don't understand these posts advising u to run a high compression motor on low octane fuel... It's simply foolish....

Im by far not the brightest person here, but I've has a zx14 since 2006, and I've got THOUSANDS of passes on the two bikes I've had. *knock on wood* I've never had a motor problem. I've never had a detonating problem. I live in south ga where the heat is unbearable. I raced all day with 87 octane, and won. So guess what? I'm going back to the manufactures cup today with 87 schell in my tank.

If it's foolish, he needs to run 93. What the fuck is he doing asking a stupid question?

I ran 92/93 the first few tanks then dropped back to 89 w/no problems. I run the Seafoam twice a year. I use the Lucas upper end treatment (almost) every tankful.
