Thanks for the reply and answering the questions, but with that said, if anyone purchases an exisiting exhaust for the 14 and mount on the 14R, and you determine that a larger size header is required to maximize power or a larger oriface is required for the canister, what can we expect as a consumer from Brock Enterprises? This is based on your previous posts above.....

That's an interesting question. In this economy, our level of customer support has helped allow us to succeed while other companies fail all around us (we are the ONLY US company that imports exhaust systems from Japan any longer, btw.) But, customer support doesn't keep the lights on... selling products (at a reasonable profit) does.
What do you and the rest of the board members suggest we do?
I would really like to know, just in case we have to face the situation.

If I had the new 14, I think I would wait and see what it really needed before I ran out and bought a system. I don't think I would expect a vendor to start handing out free parts just because I couldn't wait to rip the stock exhaust off of it

My street meg is still rockin on my black 06 ZX-14, and it is one of the bikes pictured on Brock's site when you pull up the street meg. The performance and quality of this pipe have been second to none. I go to every bike night out there and it still looks like new and is the best sounding pipe out there. I run the flies out track map and the bike puts out the same dyno numbers as when it was new. Brock, whatever you come up with for the new bike,be it the same or a new design, it will be the BEST. I would not use another exhaust.

Well said!
Brock has already said not to buy the Alienhead or the Shortmeg if you are looking for maximum power. If you like the looks and don't care for maximum HP, just like some people that like slipons, go for it.
My GUESS is that there are already enough big motor 14's using the SMEG, CT Series and Sidewinders, that those should work well on the stock motor 14R.
If you have the patience to wait for Brock's Diary14R, then you can make an informed purchasing decision. The down side to that is that it may be well after the first of the year.
In any case, IMHO, it's our responsibility to make a decision on which exhaust to buy and Brock's responsibility to provide a quality product. If Brock comes out later with a whizbang exhaust that makes 2.65 more HP, sell the old one in the classified section and buy the new whizbang, just like people have been doing for years!

You only need two tools: WD-40 and Duct Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.
My suggestion is to offer the part MFG which will improve performance... example:
-if the baffle needs to have a larger diameter for better flow; sell me what's changed
-if the header needs to have better tappering or larger dia, sell me the header, not the entire exhaust.

Brock, thanks for your input! I hope you get a new 14R soon!
Now, as a former '07 and '08 SE owner that had a lot of your products on them (Street Smart) I was wondering if anything will be changing due to new noise limit regulations going into effect everywhere. I'd love more performance but really cant stand hearing all the guys with ear splitting exhausts on the street.
I actually hate the sound of my current exhaust (Arrow thunder full system with DB killer) on my MV Agusta Brutale 1078RR but love the power increase!
Any way to have the best of both worlds on my new 14R? (when I get one!)

I can tell you that the TiWinder will not change. My grudge Busa makes 278 RWHP and I can't get any more ground clearance on it or on the 14 - we are good to go there!

That's somewhat practical for a muffler, and it's an option for for the Alien Head 2 we are working on now... But, I'm sure you have heard what a car would cost if you purchased it piece by piece. Do you want to pay $500 for two head pipes? What will you do with your old ones? Wouldn't it make more sense to sell your complete system to one of the hoards of guys who will be buying a used 14 with stock exhausts?

Wheelie,
At the moment we are simply investigating the possibility of a redesign because I suspect the new 14 may like it… But it’s purely speculation at this point.
WARNING > (please don’t take this the wrong way -- I’m smiling from ear to ear and this is not pointed at anyone in particular ESPECIALLY Wheelie): For those of you with a fast-food ‘I want it now’ state of mind, you will be VERY disappointed at how we do things. Proper R&D takes hundreds of hours on the computer, then dyno, followed by track time to prove the results… and it’s getting ready to SNOW here in Ohio before too long!
This is assuming that we see the need for a redesign AFTER I test the stock 14R using what we have available now – which works fantastic on street Busa’s making 220-250 RWHP.
THE ONLY current exception to the above is our current Alien Head Muffler, so I have accelerated our Alien Head 2 muffler program and will be ready to test it by the end of the month.

Brock,
you can tell the guys behind you to stop laughing! lol seriously, we get to race almost all year in Dallas, tracks shut down around 4-6 weeks but Yello Belly is open all year hehe, that A-Head burns my long legs on the launch, so that's out for me, I don't really want to spend the extra money for another CT so I may take another route. Will be watching for your new design of the Brocks pipes next summer, make it good!!!

After reading your Zx-14 diaries over and over long time before I owned one.I can say this.I thought the way you went through your R&D ,dyno hours and race testing wanted me to buy this bike.If it could take the beating of the dyno and dragracing without blowing up is testement to Kawasaki. The work and expense of your program is a testament to you and your company. When I buy a ZX-14R in a couple years I'll be sure to save some extra money for whatever you come up with.

My 2006 ZX-14 Diary 1 (or D1) is sitting here at my place and is one of my favorite bikes to jump on an go riding. It has well over 500 dyno pulls and it's seen more track time than road miles for sure. It's always had our >>0 weight motor oil in it and i can't break it... I don't know how. It's been a damn good bike. It HAS been pimped though; It's sporting our CT Duals and BST's - I'm getting a little older and appreciating the finer things in life

So guys... what if there is a doomsday scenario and Kawasaki did their homework so well with the OEM exhaust, like BMW did, that the aftermarket world can only pick up 5 horsepower or so?

Many will buy a pipe for 5HP and the weight savings as the stock pipes look steel. Also many also like some individuality and customization.
posted October 19, 2011 08:37 PM
Estimated turnaround time to build one of these pipes would be around six hours if I'm correct granted if you already have your fixtures for these pipes.
Do you guys use backup gas inside the pipes when welded on, talking about the stainless pipes which I believe is 316 stainless if I'm correct? Just curious because this would say a lot about your quality.
Also Brock, why is it that you don't have Jeff's phone number? You should have a better communication level with him. He might not be the quickest to respond back but he does try.lol

Also just wondering do you pressure test the pipes for leaks or use penetrant with a black light or do you guys even check for leaks?
I swear Kawasaki is going to design an exhaust to match the size of this one in the video pretty soon.

New exhaust is the first thing happening to mine. Stock cans are UGLY!
The "old" exhaust weighed about 38 lbs. Brock pipe @ 8 lb. = 30 lb. loss.
The new cans HAVE to weigh more, so maybe 35 - 40 lb. loss.
If the catalyst is in the collector, then that has to go also, so slip-ons may not be a good choice.
Just the sound of the SMEG over the stock pipes is worth a lot.................

5 HP....you will find....more Brock:
For me, I could not own the bike with the OEM exhaust fitted. That won't change when I get my 14R. I'm betting that most of the reported 18 lb weight gain over the gen 1 bike is hiding in those HUGE dual exhaust pipes. 5 HP and 30+ lbs off would be worth it to me if that was all that could be found in a good pipe. I hear the OEM step header is pretty good so it will interesting to see where the extra power is...found. That said, I think the combination of the US sound restriction and Euro III smog regs have to make the muffler piece very...complex to pull off and have decent flow.
I'm a Leo Vince man personally, but your pipes/products are proven to work extremely well so happy strip/dyno testing when you get your test bike. Btw, your diaries for the '06 bike were a gold mine of tuning info for us all so, best wishes on your pending 14R R&D efforts.
