Need help with clutch

I'm so pissed at this bike I can hardly put it into words. Please help me figure this thing out so I can get to racing. I wanted to tune the bike tonight, but the clutch is not functioning properly.

Here's the symptoms.

The clutch works as it should (as far as I can tell) with the sprocket cover off. When in gear, it will hold, the rear tire. When in neutral, it spins freely. When I put the sprocket cover on, the clutch lever is as hard as a rock. It won't move at all. I've taken it on and off 3 times now, and I can't figure out why it's binding up. I squeezed it really hard once, and fluid came from around the slave cylinder. I tried bleeding it, but that didn't do any good.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Jorgen

Are you talking about the pressure plate? The hat that sits on top of the clutch pack?

Is the lockup hitting the clutch cover ?? Pull clutch cover and see if it moves, clutch plates should have some play. Arms on lockup maybe hitting cover.

looks like your stack height is to big .. seeing the outer fiber tabs are at the end of the outer basket

also what you have for springs ... stock springs is about all you can use .. no spacers either . or you'll may have coil bind

also like the other guy said make sure that the pressure plate seated when you installed it ...

also that inner pusher looks like its way to far into the lock-up .. something don't look right there

The clutch still won't move even with the clutch cover off. So, it has to be stack height (which I don't see how that's possible considering I measured it 3 times at 2.14", or its the springs. The stock springs were too long, so I used the provided shorter soft springs for my static pressure. Maybe I'm still doing something wrong.....

Thanks for all the help.

I don't think my pressure plate is seated correctly. But I've played with it a bunch and I can't get it to sit flush against the clutch pack.

Im comparing my clutch to this one here

And I don't think my pressure plate is seating snug like that one is. I think that may be my problem. How am I supposed to seat the PP?

Check page 6-2 in the manual (Good Picture). Hope you find that a little helpful. Unable to copy picture due to my limited computer ability.

pressure plate isnt in right. if its like a 12 there are teeth on the pressure plate that fit into the hub if you have the PP indexed correctly. take it off, turn it one bolt hole at a time till the teeth go into the grooves on the hub(the ones the steels fit into)

after that check the air gap between the PP and snowflake

+1 It will help you get it seated if you remove the sprocket cover .. That will take the pressure off the pusher rod and let you line up the teeth on the pressure plate to the basket ..

Oh while you are at it .. PUT that last fiber in line with the rest of the clutches .. That last one is only offset for a wear indicator ..What happens is this , when the clutches wear down the last clutch gets stopped in the basket and will not move .. This will make toast out of the rest of your clutch asap .. By lining them all up you will get much more use of your clutch pack ..

Thanks for all the help. My last fiber isn't offset. I learned that from Duane at Cycle Concepts. If I get this figured out, I'll be denoting my bike today.

Ok..... pressure plate is lined up and in the teeth. When I move the lever, the clutch pack moves. YAY!!!! However, now I have new issues. The clutch pack is not disengaging. I can hold the clutch lever in, and the bike with continue to move. WTF!?!?!?! I called my tuner and he said that one time a CBR1000rr was doing the same thing because he too had lined the last fiber up in line. Once, they offset the last fiber, it started working fine again. I tried this, but it's still not working.

WTF!?!?!?

MY STACK HEIGHT IS 2.14"

I don't know what else it could be. I'm leaving in 2 hours, so I need to get this figured out in the next hour. If I can't figure it out, the tuner will have to operate around never having the bike stop!

Please help me figure this out!

Thanks,

Jorgen

Just talked with Tim (BigT), he said he always shot for the thinner stack height on his MTC lockup otherwise it would try to creep on him with a thicker stack height. What a PITA! Oh well, at least I have something new to try. I'm going to try to use my 2 clutch packs to try and make a thin clutch pack. Haha, wish me luck!

If you have some advise for me,

give me a call at

(360) 481-8998.

And while I'm back in there, I'm going to change that last fiber inline with the rest.
