not so true anymore. but actually if you want a 12v red led on you plate they sell those then all you have to do is wire it to the lights. But I wouldn't suggest the leds radioshack sells for anything that might see some extreme use, they are just too cheaply made. Plus half the time you don't know what exactly you're getting because their packaging doesn't have all the specs for them you need like luminous intensity and viewing angle. But if you want easy I wouldn't blame you for going there.
btw if anyone needs help with anything like that just lemme know, I'd love to help you with what I've learned.

Yeah, I lost my other black LP bolt and haven't replaced it yet. It's just a bolt anyway. I will this year.

NinjaNick, Looks like you got an LED that directs light on an angle. Seems perfect. What kind of light is that? Does it clear everything inside by the ECU?

That's why I wish I could look into my old private messages because the link was in there. A member here sent me the link to buy that perfect LED. It was a simple to install. Just using the factory wires and connecting the new LED to them.

A buddy of mine is going to see if he can replace the led in it. If not, he will find a replacement hopefully since he is an electronics freak.

OK thanks. I'm sure you have already done a search for that part but i will give it a try too. Maybe the company that made it stopped producing it. Seems like a simple to manufacture, easy to sell good idea.

The MotoTeck Innonvation site warns that international shipping may entail an additional fee. They recommend foreign buyers enquire as to the ammount. I Emailed them last night and have not heard back yet.
This is for 2 stinkin' LEDs for ~$22.00 (1 to install + a backup if it gets taken out by a rock). I don't want to get socked with some crazy shipping fee when we have lic plate bolts available in the states that might work almost as good. The sight says they mail 1-12 LEDs in an envelope.
Anyone have any ideas about shipping charges from Canada to a northern state (almost next door to CA)in the US?

^^^Yeah, the LED is cheap but once you take the time to drill out a screw and permanently, reliably attach some sort of angled doohicky so the light is directed at the plate.....might as well spend the $11. ---Not if there is going to be some $15 fee you have to pay to go to the local post office and pickup your mail from CA.
Sorry, no thanks. have a Canada friend on the other forum who gets severely bent over every time he orders bike stuff from the US.

Just ordered. It's $2.95 to ship to the lower 48 or in Canada.
I ordered a multi pack of 2. Was about $26.

You see, that is where I am famously mentally deranged. Cause I think it's definitely worth it, as a matter of fact I should be getting them in the mail today and I already have some ideas to try out. If it doesn't work oh well, if it does maybe I can make some extra for people, that's how I roll.
Sorry for your Canada woes, if it makes you feel better I hate Cali too because everything comes from there and it's a guaranteed week shipping. They got hot chicks too,(jealous).

^^It's worth it if you get satisfaction from it. I f you can get the lights whipped up quick, maybe think about selling. I don't see any on the inet from a search. Prolly very few or any in the US making those. MotoTech may be the only one in Canada for all we know.
+1 on hot Cali girls. <<

Yeah I got ten white 3mm surface mount leds in my sweaty hands right now. I just have to butcher up some bolts and see what I can come up with. These leds are so small I'd like to take advantage and make them as small as possible.

Have you thought about plastic bolts?
Much easier to drill and cut AND ready insulated!

DAmn1 Why didn't I think of that? Oh well, $25. But if you could fab those up in 15 minutes/piece........may be worth posting on some bike forums to see what kind of response you get. The 14 is nice because there is already a hole. No drilling necessary unless you went with a bracket that is way at the tip. Then I guess you use light bolts in the plate.

Yes I have those already as well. Home Depot by me was going out of business so I picked up a handful cheap. I figure I can drill em out, grind the end at an angle, solder wire to led and resistor which will go into plastic bolt then fill the bolt with resin with the led seated at the end in the angle. There, waterproof. The only thing left to do after that is figure out where to get some thin nuts to use for attachment. I think the bolts I bought were 3/8". Maybe thinking some thin black rubber tubing cut to fit around the led end and epoxied will color it and help protect it from damage as well, just as long as it doesn't get too big. Have to see how it turns out. Just trying to find the proper current limiting resistors atm. Radio Shack really blows for parts these days so it looks like I'll have to go to the one hole in the wall specialty store we have here. They got stuff from the sixties in there still, suck!

Since NinjaNick got his led fixed I hope he doesn't mind I hijack his thread, this just doesn't seem worth starting a new one...
I just soldered the first testmule now gotta grab a bolt from home and see how it's gonna fit.

Hope the project is going fine. I think I would prefer a larger bolt to fit the stock hole in the bottom of the tail. This thing I got is so tiny, it will require a couple washers to keep it from pulling through the stock hole under the tail. hope there is enough thread to admit two washers.
Larger plastic bolt drilled out may work better.
