Winter project... Turbo Power

Well the nasty orange and white Busa I bought at the sale is now going to be my winter turbo project. I am using it because of the cheapness of the parts and durability. Turbo's seem to scare people off but really they are pretty simple. properly tuned they can be some of the funnest bikes to ride. So currently I have the engine apart and have been searching the internet for some used performace rods that can stand up to over 500 H.P. The kit I have will fizzle out at about 400 RWHP at around 20lbs of boost. The fuel system would have to be modified to handle more and a bigger turbo. DETONATION will KILL your motor. It will beat the rod bearings out and destroy pistons. Trust me I have done this in the past, more than once back in the day. Air/Fuel is the key. Take the bike and have it uned. My old kit is a simple kit that works good. This is my complete turbo kit I ran and a friend lighter than me went 7.90s at 187 mph kit consists of velocity header, full garrett dbb gt2871R with custom T3 hotside, tial 38mm wastegate, billet fuel rail, all 3/8 high psi lines ,custom recalibrated fmu, (BEGI converted to a 3:1 regulator) bosch fuel pump,62lb hr injectors, synapse blow off valve, Kit makes solid 380/400 at around 20psi. The ECU has been reflashed and the PC3 has been mapped to match. Runs like a normal streetbike off boost a monster on boost. Mapped for C16 but under 10 pounds you can run pump gas. The motor will have, APE studs and nuts, rods and turbo pistons. So I know its not a 14 but I can post progress. I am going to order a set of the Ebay farings for it too.

Not bigger but the billet one. I am sending the trans off to have it done. I wonder if the bigger output shaft from the 08 would work as a cheaper upgrade?

The 08 will work but the shaft is longer so you would need the sprocket cover, sprocket cover bolts, etc.

Maybe the slave cylinder and clutch push rod too. By the time you get done it will probably cost as much as the billet one.

Got the Falicon Knife rods in the mail today. I was going to use the Woosner rods but I found thes Knife rods new in the box on Psychobike for a Gen 1 Busa shipped to the house for $300. Now that was a deal I could not pass up. So now I have to order some rod bearings and get me some Plastigauge and get Busy. Thanks to board member Compton I got my turbo pistons.

I scored this swingarm off of Suzukihayabusa.org for $400 shipped. It's a no top box arm 6" to 12" adjustable with a 2.5 bottle bracket complete with piviot and underbracing, ready to install.

Here is the turbo kit I am going to run. It was on another Busa and has been 7,97 @ 186 mph. It's a Dual Ball Bearing GT28R, It's pieced together with a Velocity header, and various other parts. Tial 38mm Wastegate, Billet fuel rail with 62lbs. hr. injectors, And a BEGI 2025 RR-FMU set to 3:1.

Fuel is controlled by a re-flashed ECU and a Powercommander using a 3 bar GM map sensor and a multi-function hub. Works really good and is very simple.

turbo update

Well I went ahead and finished the motor up. I went with the stock head which I put APE HD valve springs in. Let me tell you even though I have a good valve spring compressor it still kicked my ass messing with those keepers. I need glasses thats all there is to it. Anyway the motor went together good. I installed adjustable cam sprockets on the stock cams. come to find out the ones that were in the bike with the 1397cc kit are aftermarket high lift cams. So I will be able to sell them as well. I got $450 for the piston kit and cylinder. I was able to put the motor back in the frame (bitch by yourself), install the swingarm with the 600 piviot and 3 hole adjustable links. I used a 07 ZX14 rear shock with a Busa spring. So it's rolling again. I ran out of time so this week I need to get the wiring harness changed out and put the turbo kit on. The chinese farings were the wrong color scheme but I was able to sell them locally so I will need to reorder. I hope to have it complete and dynoed in 2 weeks. I am also trying to fit some 04 to 06 R1 wheels on it. I will post a few pics tomorrow.

Finished up the wiring and the fuel system. put on the new EK DRZ2 chain. Test fit the tank. bought one of those knock of alum. tiger tail's on Ebay, fit perfect. still need the spacers for the R1 wheels. Been working massive amounts of overtime. New model M-class goes into production in July. Running both old and new in same plant. Good for the wallet but I had planned on being through with the bike by now.
