Zx14 09
Just got my bike 09 zx14 in august once in awhile I stand it up going about 30-35 mph in 1st with the clutch and I get a quick clunk only sometimes maybe around 8000rpms anyone have any input? Love my bike can't figure it out.

After you're clutching it up, are u close to 12 o'clocking and have to back off the throttle allowing chain slack? Then once u get back on the gas to keep the wheel up it can clunk a tad just putting tension back on the drivetrain - Personally, i've never had to clutch mine up - she'll usually power up just fine at that speed

I thought it may be taking slack out of the chain but it dose when the wheel is already of the ground. Definitely don't have to clutch at that speed but it comes up quicker in traffic or passing.

Maybe go thru the rear wheel, axle, and chain to ensure alignments good and axle is torqued to minimum of 105lbft

It's in the shop now the guy still is not sure. Bikes under warranty so hopefully he is checking everything. I tell all the feedback I am getting. What's up with buell pegs I traded my buell firebolt xb 12 for my zx14 thrilled with the new power.anybody get a little gas from the overflow line after riding by a little I mean a couple drips?

Buell pegs are a cheap way to gain an inch of legroom for bigger riders - and mine has NEVER dropped any gas no matter how hard i'm floggin' it
Edit : the buell pegs we're running are the x1 lightening drop pegs - not sure if yours were drop or not

I'm willing to bet when your wheelying you have all the weight on the back tire, and it's pushing the tire closer to the undertail, making more slack in the chain. Then when your wheelying really high you don't have to give much throttle, maybe even letting out of it. I bet that's the chain hitting somewhere. Mine hits the edge of the tiger undertail when I hit a train track.

Could very well be happening - always wanna be sure that theres no more than 1 to 1.5 inches of slack in the chain measured from center on top run of chain - this is the norm for stock wheel base anyway - could need more slack with a stretched arm since theres more leverage with more length?

The more the bike squats the looser the chain gets. If I am correct you wouldn't want anymore slack in the chain because when you launch the bike it makes the chain really loose.

That could be true since they sit just above the point where both sprockets are parallel and when u launch it comes closer to being parallel, putting a scosh more slack into the chain - then between gears when the bike wants to lift a bit it takes up that additional slack? Logic tells me that you should be right on that theory - Anyway, i'm assuming this guys still at swb since he just got the bike.
So has the dealer figured out the problem yet?

Won't know what they think till Tuesday but the chain slack theory has come up a lot hopefully that's it ,just want my bike fixed. Talking to you guys helps me make sure they aren't full of s&$£ because I am not sure how many bikes a 21 year old tech have work on 14 anyway.

So no one eles has this problem or clunk during the launch of a wheely or holeshot and never any gas from overflow after riding right? cause I am going to hit these guys with some knowledge on Tuesday before I get my bike back. All information has been helpful. Thanks

I still believe you've got an alignment issue that becomes more announced when your binding the drivetrain with wheelies/holeshots -- make sure both of your sprockets aren't showing side wear from the chain dragging against them...........as for the fuel issue, I'm wondering if there could be a vent clogged or pinched vent line?? Someone else may chime in with more knowledge on this

The tech at the shop said he thought the overflow drip could be a pinched line and checked that out on Friday. He also said that hose is long and snakes through the bike and may not be allowing the gas to make its way out till I park it leaned on the kickstand.
