BMW 1000RR: Willow Springs Record Smashed
http://www.roadracingworld.com/news/article/?article=40901
Maybe Kawi will set up a track bike to beat this one's lap times in '11

Yeah dismis their new records as trivial, but for a 1st year out litre leaner, the BMW is doing OK on the streets, on the race tracks, and on the sales floors

Come on now...............that's a very talented group of racer's that was there for that race. So what is Maxton? Certainly not the top of the VERY small heap of tracks to go mile racing. Could we say "bacically a joke" as far as real tracks go?
No............of course not. The group of people who race there (Maxton) make it a great venue and event, regardless of the stature of the track. The same goes for Willow Springs, and The Streets Of Willow........ There is a bunch of VERY talented rider's that frequent that track.......and they are all crazy competive. Just like Maxton.....and all the fantastic people that race there....

Maxton is not a roadracing track. In the scheme of LSR tracks it is one of the few, even if not the best. And where did I tout Maxton in order to prove a new bike's superiority???
Streets of Willow is not a track to really showcase a big hp litre bike's potential. I think that you know that. There are probably 20 tracks in the country that are more recognized.
BMW hype is out of control....

Of course Maxton is not a roadracing track........( give me a break here Shane ) It is an old airfield with weeds, grass, bumps and turns for the racing area. But the competition and competitors helps make it the event it is. Wouldn't you say Loring and Texas were better "tracks"?
I guess I thought you were making fun of the event because it wasn't at Laguna Seca instead of Willow Springs...........
The hp of the beemer is for not.........it went around the course faster than any other bike has, so that says a lot for it's handling and brakes, as well as power. The BMW hype is good for us all, because the big four will not rest on thier laurels ( spelling? )

I'm just saying....show me where the bike is faster at a REAL track...not some hand-picked, tight-ass, mini-me track. I wouldn't have an issue with it if it wasn't being used to try to sell the bike...
As far as Loring or TX, who cares? Your local Wal-Mart has a better track surface than Maxton! Like I say, I'm not trying to sell bikes based on their Maxton #'s....

I'm with Shane.....
If it were Laguna Seca, Road America, Sears Point, Daytona, portland international raceway.... etc, yes that would be a big deal. Willow Springs....... not so much.

Well I am glad Kawasaki has decided to throw the new ZX10R out there for people to at least think of before they go buy the BMW. By hyping it early.........it will surely keep some from buying the beemer and wait to see about the Kawi. It stirs up excitement. The hp of the BMW is impressive........but people who buy one may be shell shocked at replacement parts and maintenance costs.
On another note.........got the plugs the other day and thanks for the info. Got a bunch of boys around here who already have installed them and ground off the excess shroud........

Went to a race this weekend and a new beemer was there. Did not check it out much but I did watch him run and I will say the bike looked to be making big power but he was a novice rider. One thing that concerned me was it looked to be pretty unpredictable power. The front end was coming up on him as far out as the 330.

man...seems a few get their panties in such a wad over the BMW....insecurities?
Face it, it's the new generation liter bike and everyone else is playing catch up. Period. It's the new standard. Just as the 98 R1, early Fireblades, certain Gixxers did when they came out. Every now and then there is a serious leap instead of the normal tweaks. This is one of them leaps.
Not sure why there are so many haters on this bike...it's badass and is backing up every bit of hype that was put out before it.

haters!
LeonidasZX14, I tapped the savings account for a new sport-tourer this year and have done 12,000 miles on it since Feb.... no time for a litre leaner.
But next year a new one will be in the stable

R we really still comparing the BMW(1000) to the zx14, maybe n a 1/4 race the 14 is faster, for now, wait til the performance upgrades puts the power to the ground, look how it took companies to get upgrades to u guys for ur 14's to perform with the vast upgrades available for the busa, there's already plenty of 1000's whipping ass on the bigger bikes, Now we got a another 1000 on steroids, lol, y'all going to have problems with this bike, n oh yeah, I luv my 12, lol, but I know its not running with certain bikes, but damn if I don't look good running 10.00's, they gonna have to catch me, lol
