Arai corseair 7 or Shoei RF1100 help

Any of you guys ride with one of these helments on your onion? Me and the better half are going to order a pair next week. She likes the Shoei Diabolic Revaloution and I like the Firestrike, but the Arai Hayes Jolly Rancher is so badazz I keep going back to it. Any input from you guys would be mucho apreciated because this will be a 1000 dollar plus purchase that we will want to be happy with for many years. Thanks guys,Peyton

I have an Corsair RX-7 and I've had the Shoei RF1000. The Arai is the most comfortable helmet I've put on my head as far as the interior shape and feel. The Corsair's are a very loud helmet because they do push through a lot of air and because of the side pods that hold the shield on. You will want ear plugs for extended riding over 45 mph. I think Arai's design is a little safer with the more protection around the ear area but I wouldn't hesitate to buy the Shoei.

There are some great reviews on the RF1100 on Helmet Harbor and Sport Bike Track Gear. If I had to buy another helmet right now I would go with the RF1100 or an RX-Q. The Shoei has a much better price point and a great package for that price.

I'm a Shoei fan, the Arai's just never fit me as well. Also a consideration is how well the helmet covers your head. I've found the Shoei offers better protection to the chin, mine is more exposed in the Arai vs. the Shoei coming lower over my chin, only a factor if you eat it. I use an X-11 which if you check Competition Accessories is on major sale,$300~400 as the X-12 & RF1100 are replacing the old RF1000 & X-11. Either way both are top line helmets & hard to beat for protection. Oh by the way my X-11 is the only helmet I've had that you can actually feel air flow in.

only YOUR head will dictate which is better for you. You need to try to get fitted and then decide. Lot of money to spend on hoping they will fit ok for both of you.

Both helmets are great, but fitment will decide which is best for each of you.

I own several helmets, 7 in total. Each has pros and cons and fitment is slightly different. On Arai make sure you pick a series that fits your head. They make several series and they are all shaped different to suit different people heads. Overall my favorite helmet is Shark, everything from the fog proof visor to its ultra light weight and quietness.

From my helmet collection i rate in this order:
1) Shark RSR2
Pros: Quiet, comfy as hell, thick 3mm visor, good vents and air flow, infinitely adjustable visor, a real fog free visor, extremely light weight, excellent build quality.
Cons: Visibility towards the sides is slightly obstructed compared to other brands, means you gotta turn your head more often to see the sides.
Verdict: This has been the best overall helmet ive owned, it has everything you need for any weather and any type of riding. Its quiet, the lightest helmet i own and very comfortable. I paid $249 @ Motorcycle Closeouts a year ago.

2) Shoei RF1000
Pros: Very quiet, flows alot of air, very good aerodynamics, easy to swap visors, very comfortable, excellent view, lightweight, excellent build quality, short skirted lowers so its extremely helpful for the short necked folks because it does not push on back of helmet when you wear thick jacket with armor.
Cons: It fogs easily
Verdict: Iv'e always been a Shoei fan, they are very simple high quality designs that just works, its also the only helmet i own that doesn't press against the jacket on the back of the helmet riding supersport bikes. At the time i bought it, it was $269 which was a steal for 3 years ago.

3) Arai Vector
Pros: Flows a crapload of air, extremely comfortable shape and liner material, relatively light weight, good view, excellent aerodynamics, excellent build quality.
Cons: it fogs easily, loud wind noises inside, top vent whistles at highway speeds, pain in the ass visor system that feels like you're breaking it.
Verdict: I always wanted a Arai helmet to see what its like to have one, its above avg helmet but the noises drive me nuts after a while. For $299 @ Motorcycle closeouts its still a very good deal!

4) Shark RSX (I own 2, one silver one Black)
Pros: Quiet, comfortable, thick 3mm visor, infinitely adjustable visor, a real fog free visor, light weight, excellent build quality.
Cons: Visibility towards the sides is slightly obstructed compared to other brands, means you gotta turn your head more often to see the sides, air flow is pretty shitty for a helmet that lists for $549.
Verdict: This has been one of the better helmet ive owned unfortunately it does not flow much air so i wear this primarily on cold days or nights. Its quiet, and relatively light, very comfortable to wear. I paid $149 @ Motorcycle Closeouts a year ago.

5) Scorpion EX0-400
Pros: Cheap, good air flow, easy quick change visor system.
Cons: Its heavy, uncomfortable too narrow (not true to size, i ordered XXL and it fits like a Large even though i normally wear a XL), noisy inside, cheap ventilation switchgear, rough material feels abrasive, visor seal does not seal well rain gets inside, Smells like cookies inside helmet.
Verdict: a good beater helmet for quick local jaunts on hot days. $99 @ Sportbiketrackgear

6) HJC CL15
Pros: Cheap, decent air flow, easy quick change visor system.
Cons: Crappy build quality, strap snap clip broke 2 months afterwards, visor seal does not seal well, fogs pretty easily, and its heavy and unbalanced feeling, noisy at highway speeds.
Verdict: a good beater helmet for quick local jaunts, i plan to just do some snell testing of my own with this piece of junk. $99 @ Extremesupply

Get an Arai if it fits you. There is no better helmet but fit is paramount. I had a Shoei RF-1000 that was a great helmet. The X-11 was tight on the forehead and I couldn't wear it. I have an Arai Corsair Vll and a Corsair V and they are fine helmets. I will have Arai from here on out. Comp Acc has some sweet closeout deals on all of them. I have never owned any but Shoei and Arai, but my wife likes her Scorpion.

Try the new Arai RX-Q if you're not stuck on the Jolly Roger graphic.
I have both the Quantum2 and the new RX-Q is its replacemnet,
much quieter, fit is awesome, and vents really well, and I live in Texas!

Either brand if fitted well, will not disappoint you, good luck on your search.

yep it's because if the shitty seal, the visor doesn't seat on the rubber trim so the air gets around your face and eyes even when closed. Not bad on a hot summer day but infuriating in the colder winters. Rainy day forget it you so get much water and fog in that thing. Side vision isn't too bad it fairs better then the shark which has a smaller eye port.

The posts on here are absolutely right. Buy the helmet which fits your head shape and the best one you can afford. I have a "Shoei head"

Also remember, if you've got a cheap head - get a cheap helmet.

Helmet thread...COOL! I have 5 XL helmets and they all fit differently. My old beater is a really old black Arai Rx7-RR4. Fits just a bit large; I tend to mount camera's on that one. I have two Scorpion Geronimo EXO-700's. One with blue graphics, one with black graphics. I actually like these quite a bit. They fit a bit snug, and somewhat heavy, but by far the best bang for the buck. I have a custom painted "Italian" Shoei RF-1000 that is very nice. Overall, fits my head shape the best, great padding. It is a very close, splitting hairs second to my Shark RSI Shuriken. Light as a feather, great venting, pricing below the other top notch helmets.

I have both helmets. I can attest to the safety of the Arai as the reason I am still here. The Arai is much noisier than the Shoei and the shield changing is a pain. Very comfortable and cooler than the Shoei. The Shoie feels lighter and is easier to use in motion. If I had to pick just one, the top line Shoei is a better value. I just have had more than one life saving from Arai top of the line buckets.

Its truly is depending on the circumstances, had you have been wearing a different helmet that day the outcome might have been the same, better or worse, who knows? There is no real way to find out as every crash is unique. You can't really say the top line bucket is really safer, you can only assume. Like someone else mentioned above fitment is paramount and you can only hope for the best in any outcome of a crash.

Like all previous members say, its best to try on what fits your particular head best. Since local dealers near me really didn't carry a large selection of xxl or xxxl helmets in stock for me to try on I ordered helmets that I wanted to try on from places like Dennis Kirk and New Enough both of which have 30 day return policy's and no restocking fee on returns. Allowed me to get the many different Helmets from differnet manufactures and try them on and off for a few days in the house and if I didn't like them I would just return them. Helped me find a good fit.

Careful on the sizing. I had a arai astral for years in a large. I ordered the rx7 tommy gun when they went on sale in a large and it was too small. I had to step up to a xl. Just because it's a arai dosent mean all the different kinds fit the same.

I have had more than a dozen helmets in the high end. The one I love the best for the buck is my Scorpion 1000 series. Great fit with the "Nike" push button air blatter pump, built in sun shade visor (could be a bit darker) and the outer visor release/attach.
I went to a helmet "superstore" after my internet research and tried em all on. You cant go wrong! Cool looking as well with the silver matching my 14...
