would dented header cause mph to be low?

bike has been consistently running 5.8s at 117-119 with a 1.40-42 60 ft, put the track map in with out the filter made no changes..... still havent run the fuel cleaner yet but I know this bike should be in the 121-123 mph or so...

ooh that is a good sized dent. I'm no engine builder but the header is where you make horsepower with the exhaust so I would say it most likely will adversely effect it (translating into lower mph)

Easy way to find out is to remove the dents and see if it MPH more ..Any body shop with a dent puller could fix it ..

I agree with smokin.
Have the dents pulled than you'll find out for sure. I think that it is causing the loss in mph btw.

I have recently seen the dyno chart of a bike with a flattened header, and the power drop on top was very apparent. So, the potential is there.

I mean, if it is restricting flow...well, there you have it.

HOLY REDUCED EXHAUST FLOW BATMAN!!!

It's common knowledge that restictive areas of an exhaust system are in the bends of the tubing. Gas flow tends to be higher in the outside of a curved passageway, less in the inside part of the bend, so those dents are really hurting exhaust flow.

You have 2 primary tubes SERIOUSLY dented inward, restricting exhaust flow in a very important part of the primary tubes, and on two cyclinders to boot.

The primary tube for i believe cyl # 3 is the worst, and prolly has reduced the exhaust flow by at least 25%. Years ago i was doing some porting/ flow bench work on a KZ head. It was a big motor so i was flowing the exhaust ports with a 5/8" dia primary tube. The flow was horrible, and i could not undestand why as all aspects of the port work and valve job i had already tried and proven. As i was removing the primary tube i looked inside and realized that it had a good amount of surface rust inside. I glass beaded the tube and reflowed the head and wala...got what i was looking for, and that was just rust!!

I have pulled dents out of exhaust tubes before, it aint easy. Since exhausts are usually stainless steel the tubing must be heated witha torch, it's tough stuff that can't just be pulled out with a dent puller, and it'll never be right. I have cut out the dents and welded in a replacement wall, it is alot easier in some situations than pulling out dents, specially in a bend .

GOOD LUCK

Did you not notice how all the header pipes push into the collectors? Or did you install the system??. They really are a PIA the first time you install a Brocks. gets quicker after a few, like anything else.

i dented the bottom of mine and it didn't have any ill effect. Dad was running an old style m-10 that he bought used and was flattened to the point that it rubbed through and had to be patched. He still ran 123mph with it. Where is your track? that could tell you a lot right there. Have you ever run 123mph? My track doesn't run those mph's on a stock 14. Hell, i run 117-119 with a smeg and 16/46 and Dakota9498 runs 118-120 with a CT series and 17/41. He's 160lbs, and i'm 175ish. Our track is usually 3000-3500 ft in the winter and spring. I was trapping low but still running the numbers before, and the culprit was the stock clutches with 200 passes and 10,000 miles on them. Oil will also make a difference. I went from Dino oil to Mobil1 full synthetic after the first oil change with my new clutches and my mph dropped from 119 to 117-118 (with heavy springs). The 60fts more than made up for it though.

If you used to run 123 and now you run 119, I would worry. If you're looking at the average mph for people on the boards, you need to remember that TNT, smokin, and Nooby are all under 150 lbs. Those of us who are bigger aren't running those mph's.
