Rear end popping?

Got on my bike last night and as I was taking off the rear end made a clicking sound like the chain was slipping. (4-clicks). It only does it when I take off. The guy that usually does the maintenance on my rides past away a few months ago. But my bike is an 07 zx14 and it only has a little over 1k miles on it. I really need help with this issue. Don't wanna mess it up. I don't think the chain has ever been lubed. So I guess that could have something to do with it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

1000 miles isn't even breakin' it in really........but if it's the factory chain from '07 and never been lubed -- I'd definitely lube the hell out of it. Or even change it out with a new set of sprockets to match. Could be that the chain is binding. That's saying it's the chain even making the noise. Have you checked your chain alignment? Wear on the side of the sprockets teeth would be evident where the chain isn't running centered.

I was going to say it was the chain too. Have you adjusted the chain since you bought it? The chain stretches, and if you don't adjust, the chain can jump teeth on the sprockets causing it to "pop."

Get the rear wheel in the air and check the chain. Roll the wheel and listen for any noises .

If you have the owners book, look at it and read about rear chain adjustment and care section. The stock chain has to wear into the rubber dampner on front sprocket too. This and normal chain stretch for the first 1500 easy street miles is normal. This causes the chain
to be adjusted several times before it is seated in and your good for a long time. Follow kawasaki shop manual instructions.

If the chain is 3 years old and never been lubed I'd say it's no good. I clean/lube mine just about every week.

Another thing I have ran into in the past is the rear bearings. This only applies if you have had the rims chromed, some shops do not cork the bearing races and then force the bearings in. They will usually last a few hundred miles and then start popping or clunking.

I had the same problem at 2,000 miles, mine was one of the rear bearings, removed the seals and one of them didn't have hardly any grease in it.

How can you ride a motorcycle and not know how to lube and adjust the chain? That's as bad or worse than driving a car and not knowing where the dip stick is to check your oil!

Well steddy teddy like I said I had someone else that always done the maintenance on my toys. I'm a welder and work 80 hours a week. Doing maintenance would only cut into my riding time which I don't get a lot of now since my bike is 3 years old and only has about 1100 miles on it.

You don't get ANY riding time if your chain is dry as a bone......... or if it explodes and takes off your left leg.

I would buy a new chain AND sprockets as they wear together. Start over fresh. I have a stock chain and front sprocket with about 150 miles on it if your interested.

If you don't have any actual chain lube, then use wd40 for the time being. Anything is better then nothing. Good luck.

Sorry to ruffle your feathers but this is just basic knowledge than ANYONE that own's a bike is suppose to know. If you don't know, then read your owners manual or even get someone to show you. It's not hard and only takes a couple minutes.

I didn't mean to sound like an ass. Thanks everyone for all the advice. I'm prob gonna clean the chain with WD-40 then use Dupont teflon chain lube I have in the garage for the lube. Don't know if it will work for o ring chain but I'm gonna give it a try. eklipse636 I will keep the pair you have in mind. If this doesn't work I'll definitely need them.
