Just as the life/work balance is important so is finding a job you enjoy.
Doug, I met a guy from Cairns on the Captain Cook highway when I was in Oz a few years back, he had a Kawasaki ZZR1100 (or ZX11) with a sidecar and took holiday makers up the coast. Now that's my kind of job.

best advice my Dad ever gave me was "don't have a job where you dread hearing the alarm clock". How true.

GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN!!!
I have been a motorcycle mechanic for 33 years and 8 months. I have seen so much in the way of , well of EVERYTHING i guess would be accurate to say, and i have been lucky to have incorporated my love of skoots and earning a living. I have never gotten rich $$ wise but the experiences i have had thru this journey are absolutely priceless!
This December i will be celebrating owning my own shop for 20 years, and am grateful to have the reputation that we have here in South Florida.
It has been a wondeful ride and i ain't gettin off anytime soon!!

WOW...i can't figure out if you have had too much coffee, or not enuff, or are there chilhood issues here!!??
BTW... i have been skootin' on my skoots for a long time, have skooted fast enuff to set 13 Nat'l records in my drag racing days, have skooted my skoots to many states and places, with so many more to skoot to, and love to skoot around town or hit the open road on my skoots as much as possible. My g/f has her own skoot that she has had for 22 years, but she is looking to get into one of them sport bike skoots, to skoot around faster than her Magna...uh...skoot can skoot.
Right now we have 16 skoots in my shop. One skoot is on the dyno waiting for a slip-on to replace the one he brought in that lost 1 h.p. to the stock exhaust that came on his skoot.
I rode my skoot home last night, taking the long way home with my apprentice on his R1,him not even able to stay with me in the turns. He was amazed that a fat old man on his big azz skoot could run away from him!!
Anyways, i have used the term "skoot" for decades and you are one of maybe 2 or 3 to have anything to say about it in a negative way. I don't understand why it bothers you or anyone else as it is just my way of saying "bike" or "motorcycle" or "motor-driven cycle" (as seen on DOT signs).
Gosh darn, if seeing the word skoot bothers you so much, i wonder how well you deal with living life on life's terms and the real important stuff that we have to face at times...this "skoot" stuff is so trivial.

I always wanted to be a bike mechanic. 20 years at the Steel Mill, retired from that and went to work for the Brand new then Mercedes-Benz SUV plant in Alabama. 2 degrees, 1st. Industrial hydraulics (Won't even get you a job changing the french fry oil at McDonalds now) 2nd Industrial managment and developement (Worthless too) Now I am over all the lines that put all the panels on the 3 models that we build( R, GL and M-class) in the Body Shop, and now we are expanding again with the next generation C-Class car. I work on bikes for myself and build a few motors for friends. I love my job but I like working on bikes better.
