What are the advantages of doing this? I've been racing ny 14 for 4 years now and havent done that. Am I losing power or something??

68gts said that his throttle position was reading 12 percent off, and they can read off from slack in the cable.

So if my throttle is wide open, its possible that its not 100% open?? I twist it till it doesn't twist anymore. Drag race only.

I dont really know. Im sure its opening the flies all the way, but the tps not reading accurately. Maybe power commander has come kind of way of calibrating it and you can twist the throttle to lock and it will set that as 100% and fill it all in between. I dont have power commander so i dont really know.

By what I'm understanding from different people is if the pc tps dosent read 100% you won't be getting 100% of the fuel. Say for example at wot it shows 95% you will only be getting 95% fuel. I could be wrong...

When your throttle locks its because the throttle body has turned as far as its gonna go and it makes metal to metal contact somewhere, it wouldn't matter how much slack you had that would just give your throttle a sloppy feel. So if the tps is reading off it will mess up everything, maps you get online wouldn't be working correctly unless you tune yourself or you had it custom dyno tuned to compensate for the tps reading off. And 12% off is crazy, surely this isnt a common occurance.

If it reads 95% at 100% its wrong all over, 50% would read 45% probably and so on, so a map that says give it 13.1 at 50% it would give it that at 45%

Correct, it's just as simple as that, you give it 0% and 100% and it interpolates the rest to align the map cells with the throttle position.

Thanks for clearing that up! Since I just had the bike tuned I might be better off to leave it alone, right?

I did hear that you should reset the TPS at every service, I think it was someone on here. It's only a 5 minute job with a laptop.

Here is a simple example of how easy it is to get tps less than 100%. When the wife and I were installing the Jeffo map and installing the fuel pump feature we made this discovery on accident.we had the install done and were perfect on tps.0 closed and 100% open.I adjusted the idle speed and it changed tps 3% to raise idle a 100 rpm. Most have adjusted the factory slack out of the throttle cables like me. You have also re-adjusted them to compesate for cable strech after breaking the bike in for a few thousand miles. See what I am getting at? It doesent take much for it to be off quite a bit with normal adjustments. I thought Brock was being an over protective mother when he put out that we should set tps and re-install your map at every oil change, but now that I have learned how simple its just a part of maintenance.

my 1st real contribution,setting tps

Configuring the tps with a pcIIIusb

1. Warm bike to operating temperature.
2. Make usb connection to the Power Commander and start the Power Commander application.
3. select Power Commander Tools, then set throttle position. A window will open with 3 sets of numbers,Closed,Current and open
4. At the the throttle position window observe the Current number or voltage. The number will be changing. Look for the average number or voltage and write it down.(the number or voltage half way between the highest number or voltages that you observe)
5. Left click into the Closed field and backspace over the old number. Change it to the number you wrote down. Press the OK button. The window will disappear.
6. Return to Power Commander Tools, then set throttle position again.
7. The following steps must be completed quickly:
a.Use the kill switch to stop the engine, leave the key ON.
b.Immediately after engine stops, turn the Kill switch back to its ON position.
c. Turn the throttle to wide open.
d. Observe the Current field,it may be changing or it may be constant. Look for the average number and record it.
8. Restart the bike.
9. Left click into the open field and backspace over the old number. Change it to the number you just recorded. Press the OK button.
10. Start the bike.
12. With the bike at idle the % Throttle window should read ''0''.
13. Use the kill switch to stop the engine, leaving the key on.
14. Immediately after engine stops, turn the kill switch back to the ON position.
15. With the engine OFF,turn and hold the throttle to wide open, the % Throttle window should read ''100''.

Note: if either the at Closed or at Open throttle positions do not read correctly,go back and repeat the configuration procedure and pay closer attention to the average numbers being displayed when using the Set Throttle Position utility.

You have now finished with the Throttle Position settings.

Who ever tunes your bike should see if the throttle is reading 100% when its wide open and if its not he should be able to fix it right away! Everytime we tune my bike thats the first thing we Do.

How much did you get charged to re-map Dusty? If you say 250$ ish I would not be a happy camper. Would make me a little leary of the tuners knowledge.

if you have the dynojet lcd you can see the throttle position percentage all the time, it is zero at idle and it goes to 100% at wide open throttle. I crack it wide open in a high gear to check it all the time.

Shane you will also need a hot 9 volt to plug into the pc111 along with a laptop. If my memory is correct Lewis told me his wife had a laptop. I bet he would be willing to help you set tps.
