do you think carbon fiber wheels made the bike run 272mph
I think they were part of the equation. Bill put a great deal of development work into that bike. The carbon wheels reduce moment of inertia. Reducing moment of inertia improves acceleration. Improved acceleration yields higher speed through the traps.
Most likely the cf wheels have ceramic bearings. Ceramic bearings reducing rolling resistance. Reduced rolling resistance adds to the top speed of the vehicle.
While new to the venue I have found LSR/miles types to be very open and friendly, willing to share most of their tricks. Bill is a highly competent tuner who has earned the respect of his peers. Good lord man he rode his naked bike to 250 plus!
Come on out and play, it may brighten your outlook. You’ll find a supportive group of people willing to help you achieve your personal best. Sure there will be a few who giggle at your lack of performance, but those kind of people are always around.
Others will carefully monitor your progress from meet to meet. Sometimes the rider who starts slow ends fast.

New Dyno results!
I installed a PowerCommander V and had the bike tuned by 2WheelDynoworks.
No other modifications, so these are gains accomplished purely by a PCV and getting professionally tuned:

Blue line is the "Before", Red line is the "After"

LOL! The top-notch dyno tuner from the westside of the state just started making road trips to Spokane last summer, and I missed both days last year. I finally buckled down and got a PCV and installed it last week, and then stood in the snow while I waited my turn for a tune.
Tuner said it ran lean through the middle and rich up top, which is typical. I really didn't think I would notice any difference, but it is definitely improved. Now, if it would just warm up a little bit here...

I had my bike put on two different dynos by two separate operators, and they came up with incredibly close numbers. That tells me they are both pretty accurate.
If your bike is completely stock and dyno shows 177hp, I have my doubts as to the accuracy of the dyno.

I think thats the same place that did mine, Nells was the guy's name who tuned mine. Made 171hp and 99tq on the Standard scale. 08 14 with m14 extended to 67" wb and a heavy sticky Usoft, and an over oiled BMC street air filter.
Im sure the tire, extension, and my crappy filter oiling skills cost me some HP. I believe Nells told me the extension and usoft cost me the beter part of 10 hp.
