wheres my mph
i have an 09 zx14 yosh r-77 pipe no commander lowered 6 over stock gearing . 2 weeks ago first time at the drag strip. leaving at 7k still bogging a little bit then shifting at 11k. 1.67 60ft 6.68 1/8@110 10.1@136.59 im 235 suited. i know i need practice, but i thought the mph would be much higher. i was low on fuel so i put 1/2 gallon of 103 race fuel. i was told after the fact that would actually slow the bike down

Don't worry about your MPH , it will come when you learn to ride the bike .. It is all seat time ..

First is the Yosh a slip on or full. Either way you need a power commander with a proper map. And I definitely wouldn't run the race fuel, that probably hurt a little as well. If you want to run something other than pump gas get a map made for some MR-9 or MR-11.

Are you using your clutch to shift? If so you should pick up a ton of MPH when you stop.

I noticed a couple mph when I stopped using the clutch to shift, plus it stopped the wheelying when shifting into 2nd.

the r-77 pipe is the full header not a slip on. i was using the clutch . the only reason for the race fuel was the gas light came on and thats what they had. thats why i only put a half gallon in . it was the first time out on this bike. its alot more to handle than the 99 r1 i was riding. that was stock lengh and i went a 1.6 60ft on that so i know i will get better on the zx14.

Seat time ! That will get the mph up ! Work on your 60 ft and in the process you'll start building the mph! Best mod ever is that clutch hand!!!!!!

not hard at all on the clutch...as a matter of fact, clutch don't care at all. It stays engaged.
If you are WFO, all you need to do is give the shifter some up pressure to preload it, and when you want to shift, simply lift off the throttle for a split second...bam, into the next gear. Faster than using your clutch, but nowhere near as fast as an airshifter.

Moses definetly get that thing a PC-III or PC-V. I run a full Yosh exhaust also and I got my commander from fuelmotousa.com. They are Yosh tuning center so they have dyno tested Yosh Exhaust on 14's so they can set you up with a specific inhouse custom map for your specific set up. They also offer free maps when you buy your PC from them. I bought my PC-III preloaded with a fly's in map from them and used that for over a year and it was great. When I removed my flies I just emailed them and they supplied their custom correct map for the fly's out and the bike runs excellent. In my experience they have been great to deal with and great customer service also.

i went to atco tonite only got 1 pass before the rain still 10.1 136 bogged off the line . i tryed to leave too hard i guess.7500 then almost dumping the clutch, still learning the bike. i picked up some sprockets today 16/44 and clutch springs and spacers from carpenters. im gonna try the sprocket in stages just the front for a while then add the rear i will look into a pcv chipped for my mods. im by no means trying to be a contender on the ama drag racing circuit. i would just like to see some mid 9 second passes. just reading all the stuff on the web i thought it would only take a couple passes

First off you don't need lower gears at stock wheel base .. Second you don't need the clutch spacers either ..
You are looking for quick fixes to go faster .. sorry there are no quick fixs ... You need seat time and that is all you need ... The way your bike is right now will run in the 9s no problem even with your 200+ pound frame .... Keep going to the track and the numbers will drop on there own ... P/S watch out for a little guy on a VMax , he is looking for new guys on zx14 to pick on so he can claim another zx14 kill ..

the sad truth is my bike is lowered with extentions. i only have 5 passes on it with a best 60ft of 1.67. alot of people told be for my 235 lb weight i need to change the gearing and the clutch springs will help the clutch last. i have seen a small guy on a new vmax i dont think it was his. hes was a real nice guy and owns a few r1s. i never ran the vmax but after the 60ft his r1 just walks around me.

You didn't say you had the bike longer ... Yes gears will help and so will the clutch spacers .. Still the best mod is seat time ... No getting around that fact .. You should be able to run mid to low nines with what you have now even at 235 pounds..
