I only run 4.0 Qts and that puts it in the middle or low side of the sight glass .... Brock said that works best for drag racing but watch out for wheelys .....

Why would you need an exact number? Just curious.

I'm due for an oil change. I got almost 6,000 miles on some automotive Rotella synthetic. I push the bike to redline almost every time I'm on it, but not nearly as hard as some of you guys. I meant to change it a lot sooner, just kinda forgot. Just thought some of you might like the info that it lasted that long.

It's a must to know exactly how much fluid is needed for proper care of your bike!!!

Here's why I ask...

4 quarts of oil is 3.785 liters or 1 gallon...

So if the 14 calls for 4.0 liters of oil and you use 4 quarts of oil or 1 gallon of oil you will be .215ml. of oil short, which = 1 cup of oil, which is 8ounces of oil short!!!

Now my question is what will the impact of an 8oz. cup of oil short have on a ZX14 motor???

Anyone???...Anyone???

By the way, the ZX12 takes 2800ml of oil...Anyone know how much 1 1/4 quart of oil weighs???

Also, the 14 has a larger capacity radiator, now I'm starting to see where all the extra weight on the 14 is coming from compared to the 12!!!

Well with four QTs in my zx14 it puts the oil to about the middle of the sight glass ... I have no problems running it like this .Brock said he runs his a little low for drag strip use but not to wheely it with this lower oil level... If i run 4.3 it's way over the sight glass..Most of the local guys i know running a zx14 use 4 QTs with no problems ...With 500+ plus passes on mine and still running strong i guess it's not a problem..I would not do this with a turbo but stock motor seems to work..Smokin...

Say you have the .3 missing. Say you have the bike just running along at 12,000 RPM in 6th. If 4 quarts can go through that oil pump and come back down from the top end, do you think .3 quarts are going to be missing that much?
Like Brock says, you'd be better off with a bellow of a crankcase that is not so pressured with .3 miles higher of extra level is the dam gonna overflow we seize the engine pour 4 more, seen your?

I put in 4.2 Qts but that's because my filter is slightly larger then the factory one. 4qts should put you in the middle mark in the glass but its not full to the top mark.

I'd put the oil at the full mark when cold........after it's hot, it's probably going to fall about mid site glass

When you guys check the level are you guys checking with it on the fork/swing arm stands or while you are holding it up straight? I just check mine after running the engine a few mins then set it on the stands perfectly level.

I always check mine while its level on the bike jack, or i just squat down on the right and stand it up straight before I check the oil level........checking it on the side stand, you'll never see the oil in the site glass. And if you do, you better drain some out because it would be grossly over filled.
