Non o-ring looseness

Switched to a non o-ring on another bike.No new sprockets.Have Vortex sprockets. 800 miles and I have adjusted it over one full mark. Seems loose on the sprocket- mucho side play and can pull it out 3/16"". I know my sprocket is wearing but are non's just looser? Has more tensile strength than old chain. I know it's best to change in sets but this is a streetfighter project and is closely watched.

you'll normally get an initial big stretch over the first few hundred miles...more so if you are draggin it.

Can you give a few more details or pics of this "loosness"

Never noticed an o-ring stretching. Not this much. I checked the side plate clearance against a new one and no diff. Probably sprocket wear on sides of teeth.

If you have ridden 800 miles you probably go the wrong chain for your application IMO. That chain is not for street use because the road grime will destroy it very quickly due to the metal on metal rubbing without the oring to absorb the wear factor.

their not junk if used in the right application. They are made for dragracing, not streetriding.

LOL very true ... I put a lot of time and work into that chain ... Every other week i pulled it off and cleaned it , then put in a oil bath over night ... Not cheap oil either , i used mobil one syn oil .. They are great drag chains but not much good on the street ... Short rides ok but forget about a day trip ..

ummm...the o-ring has nothing to do with metal on metal rubbing and absorbing the wear factor. An o-ring is there to keep the LUBE inside the pins to lubricate the internal parts of the chain. All that is needed to lube an o-ring chain are the rollers that contact the sprockets.

A Non O-ring just needs more attention and cleaning than a similar o-ring chain. LOTS more attention.

Quarter pound is right. It must just be of pore quality. The O ring keeps the factory grease inside the chain.

same name brand? I thought they were lighter. Maybe it's just the friction of the o rings that causes them to be "slower"

I've run several DZR-2's now. My next chain will either be an EK ZZZ or ZVM. I've only been getting about a year out of the DRZ's.
