street and strip are completely different settings and no where near each other

First thing you need to do for the street is set your sag on both ends. Once you have the correct spring preload set, then you need to find that happy medium in rebound, compression damping.

Start with stock settings on those and soften one of them quite a bit to see how it affects the ride...then go a lot stiffer on that setting to see how it affects it....dial it in to your preference. Do the same for both rebound and compression on both ends.

BUT, key is only make an adjustment on ONE thing at a time...and understand how it affects the bikes handling.

For the dragstrip its a bit easier....for the rear, set the rear spring as soft as you can without bottoming it out on the inner fender....start with full soft compression and full hard on rebound on the rear shock. Front does not matter that much especially if you are strapping it.

At 198lbs, if you are stetched 6+ inches over, you will have to max the spring stiffness and go full hard on both screws. QP's settings are correct for swb and 160lb guys though.

it was assumed that you would have correct spring rates (hence setting the correct sag first). Other than that...it applies to any rider, any weight.

Compression screw is on top of shock and rebound is on bottom.

Jon, you have to figure that the spring will rightly let the bike squat only so far but the compression valving dictates how slowly it squats. A bike needs to be in squating stroke as long as possible, not quicker squatting. A soft compression does not apply to all bikes, lengths, rider weights, and horsepower. A bike with too soft compression will squat until the spring stops it or bottoms out then it will spin the tire or wheelie.

I agree. I bought it used and therefore didn't have one. Guess Ima have to scoop one up. Buy like I said I've never fooled with it until now when traction has become a issue.

I was in the same boat when I bought mine...no manual. I bought one of them shop manuals on CD off evilbay and it has proven well worth the coin I spent. Order one up and it'll have everything you need and then some.

Whatever you do, don't put a stiffer spring on a stock shock. It doesn't work at all and you'll never run good times that way...
