••••)> 16t or 2 up in the rear...--- ...rpm/highway speeds ???

i have stock gearing now, i like cruising at lower rpms on the high way, , i take long trips sometimes. at 70mph i think i'm somewhere around 4k, at 90 i'm close to 5k.. how much of difference when cruising at those speeds will the rpms be with a 16t front sprocket or +2 rear.. i want to do the 16t front cause this way i can keep my stock chain and the rear wheel will be moved back father then if i tried to get a 2 up rear sprocket on the stock chain (i.e. little bit longer wheel base), i like the idea of going with a larger rear sprocket cause i can put it on my self and i know it wont be to much rpm's. can you put a +2 rear sprocket on a stock chain.. has anyone done it - i have almost 3k miles on my bike its an 06

My estimates would be 300 additional RPM for a 43 tooth rear and just under 400 for a 16 tooth...............if you have over 2000 miles on the bike there should be enough chain stretch to run a 43 tooth rear.................if most of your riding is highway then go with a 43 but keep in mind I run 16/42 and dont find it buzzy on the highway at all even at 90, plus it keeps your wheelbase essentially the same as stock and is a GREAT all purpose ratio good for the highway and the dragstrip.

i run a 17/45, cruising at 65 my rpm is 3900-4000 (speedohealer/gps adjusted). instant mpg still reads over 30.

ratios:
16/42=2.63
17/45=2.65
16/43=2.69

feels high at first, but you get used to it...just crack the throttle...wow!

i'm leaning to do +2 rear sprocket, if i can fit the chain on it i will be happy with that... i think i will buy a vortex sprocket maybe a red one or whatever one matches my 06 passion red bike

Go with +2 on the rear, & add a few chain links tot bring it back to normal or longer wheel base

I don't think you would tell a whole lot of difference between +1 and -2. frog sprocket would be cheaper, rear sprocket would make the bike look better. How many miles are on your chain?

The + 2 is going to make your wheelbase as short as the adjusters will allow without adding some links. The gear combined with the short wheelbase makes the front tire levatate magicly. The sprocket people told me the +2 provides a smoother torque band than a -1 front setup.it seems to be steep the 1st ride or two,but after a couple of rides you realize how much better the bike is everywhere. Taking off in 1st gear is much easier on the clutch as you don't have to be going 20 mph to realease it fully. I ride hwy a bunch and run 70 to 80 mph with ease. Roll-ons are also greatly improved with this gearing combo. Lab3 can attest to its improvement over a stock geared bike as he runs a +2 combo as well. Try it,you will like it. I run a Super Sprox hybrid sprocket, steel teeth aluminum center. It offers light weight and twice the life of just the aluminum sprocket. My 02 cents worth.

i went to cycle gear today and bought a new vortec 43tooth sprocket i got in the harden black.. i'm thinking about trying out the Michelin sport 200/50/17 rear tire has anyone had any problems with the 200mm michelin tire.. i have heard it is not a true 200mm and is made for the zx14 and other big bore bikes so it will fit on the rim pretty good

the sprocket will be in next week some time, they charged me 59 bucks for it... and my chain has 2,800 miles on it today

A 200 tire will turn your 43T sprocket into a 42.5T. It's taller than a 190, and affects your overall gearing.

The stock tire is a 190/50, which is usually much shorter (when installed) than a 200/50. The taller tire does affect gearing, but you probably won't notice it much.
