ya, that was summer 08
edit: the 2nd vid, I was filming. I wanted to hear what my bike sounded like. He wasn't used to my bike and was missing shifts. He sure liked it though!
I kind of miss that crazy street riding, but it's just too risky for me these days.
That's why I only have a drag bike now. it's not fun for me to ride the speed limit...... I guess getting a reckless didn't help either.....

On my 14, I was just under 2 seconds slower than my best lap on my Yammie 1000 track bike at our local raceway -- and back then I was smoking inexperienced 600 riders -- couple of 'em figured it was the power pulling me ahead of them when in fact I could push it in the corners just a bit tighter than they could -- but that was the inexperience working against them as they weren't nearly as comfortable "backing" it in as I was -- the power did help on the straights but didn't cut my time as much as getting inside of them on the snug turns I love trimming up those race lines!!
agreed. i take my lowered and stretched drag racing 14 up into the mountains often. ride a good line and you can keep up with other "better" bikes who can't. the major downside to my setup is when it rains...shinko's not so good! haha

yes Lee, bently went to "The Dark Side" and gave away his 14, said where he lived a 14 was not worth much. His words, just sayin. He is a little touchy bout it right now :-)

I rode my first 14 1600 miles in 4 days used a tank bag and soft saddle bags. was a verry fun trip. some of us ride our bikes for more then the track and need some storage.

I've always been into roadracing and not much into drag racing -- but I do have mad respect for drag racers since they rely alot more on tuning and consistency with their bikes, and it seems to take more knowledge of the machines themselves to be a good dragger than it does to be a knee dragger -- especially since the majority of the rockets that these companies build are damn near ready to race with little help from the consumer.......so it makes our job that much easier when building a better track bike. Those of us that use our 14's to carve up backroads are definitely few vs. the number of owners that drag theirs.........so, cheers to a fellow knee dragger!!
I'm with you on this, I'm a twisty and track day guy too also. Albeit the ZX14 isn't exactly a ideal canyon carver it does everything pretty well for a large bike. It got good brakes, good handling (on the sweeper stuff anyways), and kick ass power coming out of the exits. Its comfy streetbike that's ready to take on just about anything you throw at it.

Well I didn't ride with slouches, and it was never the 14 in the back. Even then, I couldn't out-ride the bike. The 14 is a lot more capable than people think.

That depends on what street you're talking about. On the tight tight stuff like Glendora Mountain Ridge i cant keep up with the faster race replica sportbikes, heck even the single cylinder supermoto bikes are clowning me. On the other hand, i can slice through the same canyon fast with my Gixxer750. But on the tight stuff the ZX14 is a handful to keep at hold, sweeper turns i have no problem hauling major ass.

I wonder what the tab would actually be to trick out a 14 with high-end Ohlins suspension parts to the point that it would handle curvy mountain roads and the track REALLY good - or if that's even possible? Probably too pricey for what you'd end up with. I've never seen any threads on any forum where anybody's tried it.

Well in the tight stuff On my 14 or busa I will not even try to keep up with the 4 or 5 guys I ride with, and I have plenty of track days and road race schools under my belt. I will say a 14 or busa will go thru corners faster then needed on the street. but I ride with 4 or 5 guys that road race.

I can agree with that. The 14 doesn't flick like the supersports, but it holds a corner on the street just as good as any. Do you think that's fair to say?

Yes 14 corners faster then needed on the street.
