How long will you wait for parts you have paid for until you are fed up?

not from anybody selling parts on here, but 2 different vendors I bought parts from and paid in full.

One order was 2/28. I got a phone call saying we are waiting, parts will be in soon. Havent heard a thing from them since. Called them, said they were going to come in but didn't, we'll call you... Still haven't heard.. no call, no email, nothing. All it is, stock bore .030 headgasket.

2nd order was on 2/11. Good amount of parts, and expensive ones. I emailed my order, was told to call, called and told them again what i wanted. Got the wrong parts, emailed and called to ask why and was told that I didnt need the ones that I ordered they are only for a select few customers. Finally after emails back and forth they decided to sell me the parts that i wanted/needed only to have them out of stock. (but claimed they were in stock when I put in my order) So now its the waiting game again.

Unreal, at what point do you just give up?

most shops will just lock you in by not giving you a refund, but offering in store credit. if that's the case just wait now instead of later when you order again with their credit.

What is it about motorcycle vendors? It's worse than dealing with car salesman.

If I don't get my stuff in 3-5 days in cancelling and ordering somewhere else period.
No body needs to wait longer than that!
I couldn't imagine what my clients would do at my shop if I couldn't get their bike back to them cause one of my vendors is taking weeks or monts to get their parts to me!

If you are going to dispute it I would do it sooner rather than later. Credit card companies don't like to go back too far for disputes and your 2/28 order is coming up.

When ordering from a retail store or online I will generally only wait two weeks, max. Outside that I wiil cancel or dispute it through my credit card company.
I ordered parts through one store on-line and when I tried to cancel they told me there would be a 15% restock fee.. Imagine that, for something they hadn't even shipped yet. I told them to never mind and I disputed it through the credit card company and was refunded 100% of my cost.

Any chance you guys want to post up the names of these suspect vendors?

I'd taken my '97 YZF1000 to a local shop that was family owned ( thought i was being smart using a smaller company that needed the business ) so I dropped the bike off for trans/engine work -- they had my bike from March 2007 thru June 2007 and hadn't touched it. They'd ordered in all the parts but had a couple gaskets still on backorder -- what they were really doing was putting a bunch of other customers needing tune-ups and smaller in&out jobs before my repair and blaming it on backordered parts.........I ended up going and getting the bike, denied the parts and demanded a refund -- then took it elsewhere. BBB got an earfull about them as well. Mom and Pop shops aren't always the best choice.

So who are these hacks that you ordered from? Might cause them some financial pain if everybody got the word out not to buy from them.

I would pay by Mastercard and like they already said, that way the payment is protected if the parts don't arrive, the card company will reimburse you and stomp on the seller.
If you order something you should always ask if it's in stock and if not when payment will be taken. I think it's immoral to take payment for an order which cannot be supplied from stock, particularly as the seller will usually have an account with his supplier and won't be paying up front. Many sellers only take the money when they send the goods.

I know that because of the hard times, sellers are not stocking up much. They wait for an order and THEN get it from the distributor/manufacture. Even the manufactures are not making certain parts until there is a request. Its the same for my dam Kenmore dishwasher! I HATE washing dishes by hand!!

The thing with getting service from any shop including mom&pop's is you have to keep on top of them asking for progress updates.
Especially if you need your scoot back sooner than later and ask them what the expected finish time will be.
If that date comes to pass and there's no real progress happening then it's time to get your bike out of there!

I let them slide for about a month since I knew parts had to be imported for this bike - it was only in the states for a year before the '98 R1 u.s. model was introduced here. But then I'd started calling 4 or 5 times a month after that and they kept blaming it on backordered parts -- I eventually got to speak with the mechanic that was supposedly doing the work on it, and he screwed up and admitted they'd had the parts for weeks but since it was such a big job, they didn't want to start on it until they would have the time to stay on it throughout the repair -- which I can sort of understand if it were "Bob's bike shop" or something like that, but this was a Yamaha DEALERSHIP ( family owned/operated ) and should have given me the game plan up front when I dropped the bike off and not yanked my crank about missing parts and sh*t.........I missed out on most of the track season in 2008 because of it and ended up selling the bike to a racing buddy -- on the bright side, I bought my 14 a few weeks later!! By the way, it was Joe's Yamaha in Dayton Ohio if anyone is interested
