crash question
This is somewhat a noob question but I hear just about all the experienced guys saying that inexperienced riders shouldn’t get a bike . My question is what the most common mistake a inexperienced make that leads to a crash? My first bike was a 1200 and I never came close to a crash or had a close encounter.(knocking on wood)

trying to do things your skillset can't match
NOT listening to those that have been there, done that.
NOT starting out on a crap/slow bike that won't matter if it gets dropped in a parking lot (most don't have the maturity to keep from twisting the throttle to the stop to soon)
NOT taking the time to learn solid survival (riding) skills that will keep you alive
you can go on and on...

pushing the limits of the bike on road that is not familiar to the rider. make sure road is nice and smooth, know if there are going to be deer, heavy traffic.
stay within speed limit. - thats what i do with my zx14.

My question is what the most common mistake a inexperienced make that leads to a crash?
Most take minimum classes on riding skills, they don't use proper riding vision(keeping your head up and looking ahead upon turns while peripherals works the rest), failure to ride within their limits, minimum selfdiscipline, and little respect for the machine.
For the newbies that may drop their bike while washing, foot slips on rocks or oil, failure to put your feet down promptly when coming to a stop, and not using a plate or alternative when parking in the sand or on hot tarred streets/parking lot. GET FRAME SLIDERS!

Trying to put it simply I think it's when the bike starts to take you for a ride, you are no longer in control.

Usually it's riding through "that" part of town. You know, with the guys walking around in the assless chaps and all.
Very distracting.

The most common mistake I see other than distractions , is new riders not giving themselfs enough of a space cusion around them.
They follow to close to the car ahead of them , or ride next to cars beside them for too long , or allow themselfs to be rearended in heavy traffic.
The other mistakes are riding outside your abilities and riding faster than the road conditions allow.

I would agree with that but most who have Sport touring bikes(ZX14, Busa) changed their gearing to engage a more snappy feel at the throttle and gain quicker launch reactions then stock

There are some interesting crash stats that you can look up online that cover that very subject. Intersections, alcohol, riding to fast, and entering turns to fast are all at the top of the list.Intersections is a biggy along with alcohol.

Also a little off the subject is the lack of proper riding gear that causes more injury than there should be.Get proper clothing before you ride.If you have a ten dollar head then buy a ten dollar helmet.

trying to take corners too fast on a sportster
forgetting to put their feet down at a stop light
trying to turn right on red with the bike still in 3rd gear ( i saw that one happen to a friend a few weeks ago)
And the #1 reason for people crashing a motorcycle.... *drumroll*
Cagers running over them when it gets cloudy in Southern California!

+1 on the gear up!
There are 3 types of riders , those who have went down , those that are going down, and those that are going down again.
Sooner or later a rider will go down . But that doesn't mean it's a bad thing. Learn from others accidents and always plan for a potential accident situation.
Plan a way out of any situation that you come accross. If something makes you cringe or pucker up when you ride figure out what
Is wrong and tackle the problem.
Motorcyclists are actually not nearly as bad as cagers. When was the last time you heard of a 20 bike pile up on the news ?lol!
Keep your distance from anything and everthing that is bigger and heavier than you on the roads and plan your escapes.
When you see something that happens to someone else, try to plan what you would have done different.
One thing that never escapes me when I ride is how many decisions
and planning your brain does to deal with the road conditions and surroundings.

That is a major contributing factor to accidents of all riders new or old!
The sooner you learn that the better you will be at predicting what the other guy is gonna do and how to stay
out of potentially dangerous situations.
