Sand in airbox
I was ridding in The dust storm while coming from Phoenix to San Jose California. I have a race bmc air filter and it allowed some sand through - what should I do next beside going back to stock filter

Have you cleaned and oiled the filter lately? Oil should catch sand. However, don't over oil it or it will cut your air flow.

sand and dirt is also underneath the airfilter harness. does anyone else have this problem. and will grease help. I dont think metal Schnitz will help with this since its the plastic inside the air box that gets wrapped during high speed.

Replace the filter. While your spending $85 for a filter go ahead and replace the cover. If you don't want to buy a new one, the 08-09 zx14's come stock with them. Maybe someone is parting out a bike and you can pick one up that way.

A desert racing trick is to use a couple layers of pantyhose around your filter and let it hang out of the side cover to help pinch out any debris from coming in between the filter and its cover -- then rtv silicone to shut out debris from electrical components, it stays flexible so you can remove it later if need be. We used both these little tricks back in our younger race days on 2smoke 2wheelers and it DID prolong engine life and ulitmately saved us all money. Hope this helps, but if not you can move east where there's no sand to worry about!! LOL!!

The only time I had a ton of dirt in my air box was on june 15th of 08 when I crashed in the dirt.
The air filter was packed with dirt and so much that a small mountain formed on top of it lmao!

its a motorcycle meant to be ridden doesn't matter if it is raining, snowing, or windy outside as long as it is highway not off road.
Here is the crazy idea ... maybe its the bike not my driving habits.
