best suggestion, lowering 14 for street riding
OK, I bought lowering dog bones(brock) for the rear but I've always read that you need to use straps to lower the front and you should never ride on the street with these straps on. I wanted to get feedback on how to lower the front(to match the dog bones height on rear) and still keep the bike applicable for the street? I use my bike for street use normally but will be taking it to the track for the first time in the next couple of months. Is there a way for me to set my bike up for both street and track(without removing straps often)? I have some changes coming soon and I can't wait to share the pics and experiences with all. I will also look for drag racing advice from Smokin, Nooby, and others as I hook myself to this new adventure. Thanks!!!

Slide the forks up the trees 1 and 1/8th inch max. You dont have to remove the strap when you put it on, just loosen it for street riding.

I rode my 06 on the lowest hole in the rear and had the forks lowered 3/4". I wouldn't go anymore than the 3/4" for the sake of your oil pan. That would be a wise purchase (clems oil pan).
You have to be careful riding it on the street!
As for the strap, I don't do twisties so it dosent bother me but I leave my strap on and when I ride inthe street I pull it snug enough so it won't flop and hit the radiator. If your not doing many track days just take it off.

sliding the forks up in the clamps is dangerous business...... you have to worry about your pan, and your front fender. get a 10 fender AND a modified pan if you want to lower the forks up in the clamps.
thats my opinion.

SupermanT,
Everyone will have their own opinion on this subject but.
1) purchase Clem's pan before attempting any type of lowering
2) Schnitz sells an internal front fork modification - I did this on my 00 ZX12 and did it on my 07 ZX14 ( love it , no straps, no having to change back and forth)
3) Front and Rear are lowered 1.25"
My experience has been that lowering the bike makes it more stable at speed plus cuts down on the unwanted wheelies.
I have "heard" horror stories of the front forks slipping when they a slide up in the tree clamps.
I ride my bike on the street mostly with an occassional dragstrip trip.

I bought some adjustable dog bones and a strap, I lowered the front by 1cm by sliding the forks up.
For the track I lower the rear and strap the front, then I return it to standard for street riding. The best of both worlds.

I guess I must be lucky or something. I have been street riding for over a year with the forks droped an inch and the rear in the second hole rear,1.25 and never hit the pan. I do a lot of two up with my daughter in the twistys with no problem. Wheelies have also never caused me to scrape the pan either. Luck dod I guess.

I went 3 years without busting my pan, but when it happens, it's not good. I was lucky enough I kept it up.

EVER one that I personally know with slammed zx14 has busted the oil pan.
It's just a matter of time and luck. Spend the money now before you hurt yourself or your motor.

I am front and rear lowered 1 1/2". The only issues I have with the oil pan is over an occasionally higher peaked speed bump than normal. I put in a flush pan plug and that helps some.

it will really help that one time that you hit a bump large enough to knock the plug through the bottom ofthe oil pan!

I busted my pan and it cost me $1000.00 in damage. I am a light weight and I busted it. Spend the money and get a Clems pan. I will install it for free if you don't know how Tim. Please trust me on this one.

i put about 13k miles on mine with it lowered 1" in the front and 1.25" in the rear at stock wheelbase with no problems (I was about 190 lbs). When i lowered it to the lowest hole I took it in to get a tire put on it and got it back with a busted pan where they either tried to jack it up by the oil pan or hit it hard going onto a lift with it. Who knows. luckily i had already bought a clems pan. I would strongly suggest buying one if you lower it, but it's not absolutely necessary if you're careful. As for the straps, they are just to keep your forks from pushing your bike up into a wheelie when it transfers the weight to the rear tire during your launch at the track.

Thanks to ALL for the responses! I still learn about my bike through the experiences of others..
Chad- as a local guy here in O'town I appreciate your extended help. I will be getting my drag racing boots to complete my attire for this racing experience coming soon. I will be posting pictures in the next 2-3 weeks to show what I've done to the bike.
I think I will go with the removable/adjustable straps. I need recommendations to which brand would give best benefits and minimum scratches to my machine. Even though my bike is an 06, it's still in great shape and I get compliments on the appearance a lot. I want to keep this bike(symbolic) and just add when I think it's time for something new.
PS- I will be getting a Clems pan when I add the straps and dog bones... That mod is coming up in the next 2-3 months

Thanks to all for the good words on the Oil Pans -- As many as we have done and got busted pans in for exchange I would say its a must have for any lowering mods--- Like many said they have went a few years but it only takes one time to push that drainbolt through and then good luck staying up with zx14 power spinnning in oil.
We have pans in stock ready to ship so just let me know -- osrbikes@gmail.com
