zx12 and zx12r

is there a difference between a zx12 and zx12r? my good friend is in the market and was considering a zx12. we have been looking and on fleabay and whatnot and was wondering if there is a difference between those two bikes...

I would assume the regular zx12 is more comfy than the 12r? or are they simply the same bike?

Also, if anyone knows of some good deals for a tastefully modded or stock zx12 (if there is such a thing) please let me know.

Thanks,
Abe

Is there a difference in zx12's over the years? Which one was comfy? what years did they change?

Comfort is the same. Many changes between the 00-01, and the 02-03. 04-05 a few more changes, including brakes and the ecu type.

00 is unrestricted. 00-01 have lighter cranks, less flywheel effect. Perhaps better ram air.

02-03 More refined, heavier cranks, smoother power deilvery. Still very fast, easier to ride at the dragstrip. Different upper fairing/headlight design.

04-05 32 bit ecu, harder to de-restrict, secondary throttle plates, radial brakes.

I have an 02.

Sort of looks like a cross between a ZX-11 and a ZX-14. After all, the 14 is a ZZR at heart...

Not an awful lot of 14's around in Europe. They're mostly called "what the f**k was that"

My buddy runs a very nice ZX-12R with a stroker crank and blueprinted engine. His best LSR top speed so far is 216 mph.

Those are two bad ass bike Shane661. Right now I have the little brother of those two bikes a 05 zx-10r but the 10 doesn't fit my riding style anymore so I am looking to upgrade to a zx-14 next month but I will keep my eyes open for a good deal on 02-05 zx12r.
