questions about battery life
Since my bike is transforming into a full race bike, I was wondering, how long will the battery last without a battery tender? I hadn't ridden it (or started it) for at least 6 weeks, and I just went out and took it for a short ride. I mostly let it put around for about 10 mins. If I do that once a month, will that maintain the battery? Are then any other things I should do to keep the bike in top condition throughout the winter?

I bring my battery in the house where it's warmer and let it sit last winter. I put it on the charger for 20 minutes before I installed it in the spring (june july) damn washington weather. trickle chargers are cheap @ harbor freight

You need to get a battery tender otherwise you will not be able to keep the battery properly maintained.
Putt putting around for 10 minutes a month will not do much for the battery. Motorcycle charging systems maintain the battery at best and that's when the motorcycle is ridden regularly.

Yep putting around for 10 minutes a month won't do anything for your battery unfortunately. For under 20 bucks you can get a kick-ass charger-maintainer made by Shumacher at wal-mart. Keep your battery plugged into it when not riding, and the battery will last longer than you'll own the bike

I beat the crap out of my battery all of the time. I run a heat jacket on the Or. coast almost all summer long. In the winter I run gloves and heated chaps. To this very day I have owned this bike for 24 months. 30000+ miles, I still run a Deltron 800 battery tender on the bike in a warm building where I park it. No problems.

over three years on the oem and 12500 miles, get a battery tender jr. I ride at least short distances weekly. have never had a battery last this long i give the battery tender props.

I just took the battery out and kinda propped it on top of the oil filler cap and hooked up the Shumacher trickle charger to it. It was down to 75%. Now, can I just buy some leads and leave them permanently attached to the terminals, and then hook the Shumacher to the leads? Is there an easier way to attach the charger without having to pull it out to keep it charged?

i have a wire i leave connected to the pos terminal of my battery incase it gets low, it tucks into the frame nicely, no need for neg wire, anywhere on the frame or foot pegs work. great if i want to leave the fan running and not kill the battery between rounds, 1 min and its on the charger. thing is, i only used it once this season. started unplugging the headlights during the day....
