KnN filter power

Just wanted to mention before installing the knn air filter I read a few things here that the knn was not that good and would even lose a little hp from the stock filter based on some dyno test but after riding 175 miles for those that are interested I can tell you for a fact that the knn makes more hp through the middle 2nd and 3rd gear. The front wheel was high through second to my suprise so for those that second guess the knn it works well and I would buy another if need be.

I haven't seen any conclusive evidence showing the K&N flows worse. The stock filter has a ridiculous metal plate on the back of it. I've used K&N's in plenty of fast bikes.

In fact, the only claims I have seen on here regarding K&N's being restrictive were made without same-day/same-dyno tests.

Backside of stock filter:

I seriously doubt that the stock filter flows more than a clean and properly oiled K&N!

My ZX-12R and my girlfriend's 228 mph turbo bike both have K&N's on them. I'm inclined to believe that K&N's work pretty well.

Im sure if you oil the the shit out of the K&N it doesnt flow as good as stock. Most people put way to much oil on them. I have a K&N and put NO oil on mine, but I strip down my bike down every weekend and check all.
BMC and K&N are both good ...

This is a old carb trick on a street bike. After about 10,000 street miles take apart a carb slide and you will see a ring of fine oily dust on the top. The oil and dust made a polish
compound that would leave small scratches in finish on carb slides. Takes a long time and most sell their bikes so often and never give it a thought. I Never oiled any of my K&N on my bikes back then for this reason. I still have a 1986 FJ1200 52,000 fun miles with
4 seperate K&N filters on 40 MM carbs. And the carb slides look new. :-)

I know Lee, they are good filters. If I remember there was only 2 HP difference from worst

to best. But they did not make filters for bikes back in the early 1970's. -)

Lol! Very true! I don't think the letters BMC were even used for anything back then
