There are actually 3 different heads on that nut. I used a 6 point 35mm and it worked on the very back size. There is not much to grab but it should work. I am going off of memory so hope its right. Nice Avatar BTW

I can check when I get home, but I thought it was a 27 or 37mm.. Thinking the 27. I will be home in a few hours and will post it. DONT USE A 12 POINT!!! Search the part stores until you find the 7 or 8 point, whichever it is.

thanks the 27 fits pretty good, i tried a 35 for the outer area an is a bit too big, too much play i think a 34 might fit better but i don't have one.

I just changed mine he other day and it was a 27mm deep, six point socket. Put the pneumatic gun on it and it came off no problem; of course I remembered to turn the washer back down to flat first too...
Good luck with the stripped nut, I hope it works out for you.

Come off like every other nut. You should think about replacing that nut once you get it off.

Get a 5ft cheater bar, but a board in the rear rim, and get someone to sit on the bike.

They are a pain to get off. My 06 was the same way. The 08 did fine, with the cheater bar.

heat does wonders with loctite too, I have had to heat the nut with a torch on a friends, carefully as not to heat the shaft and seal but get the nut hot so it expands and opens op a little on the shaft. the rubber damper was pretty ugly, and it was getting a new sproket anyway.
PS, I haven't put new loctite on my counter nut, and as long as the washer is in good shape, with a fresh corner bent up on the nut, Loctite is not required

The best socket to use on the countershaft sprocket nut is the hexagonal variety which bears on the flats of the nut, not the corners and should not round it off.
