Tragedy averted
My youngest daughter is 4 and I thought she would be ready for a ride on the 50CC Kawasaki with training wheels. She "helped" me get it running as it has sat for a while. We got the training wheels on and headed for the yard. I went through the controls with her and stood right next to her as we went around the yard.
Things were going well so I started to distance myself from her so she could go a bit faster then idle. She was doing so well! It was time to go in so I started to jog a head of her towards the front yard and I heard her hit the throttle a little hard. I turned around and she was heading towards some brick landscaping at about 10mph. NOT GOOD. I ran and got to her a few feet before this short wall and tried to grab her off the bike. My arm hit something on the bike but I did manage to get her off before the bike hit. We both ended up on the ground and my hand looks like I stuck it into a blender.
I am used to cuts from my profession so no stitches but it is bandaged up. Nothing too deep but a lot of skin missing. I am hoping I can still dragrace on Friday. I am just glad she is ok. It was the first time I took my eyes off her. Stupid move on my part!! I got what I deserved and thank God she did not get hurt. I have not been that scared in a while.
Here is a pic before the incident:

I got three kids and she is the youngest. I have two of those bikes and the older ones started when they were her age. They have some great skills for their age. This bike has a throttle screw so it will only go about 10mph with the way it is set.

It always worried me when my daughter was riding, kind of hypocritical I know but it's what Dad's do.
Glad you kept her safe Rich, have you thought about limiting the throttle travel a bit more on the 50cc Kawasaki? Just 'til she gets used to it.

I have but the problem is our yard is not very smooth and she needs that much to get it moving from a dead stop. As long as I stay right in front of her it will be fine. I just got careless for a split second.

Rich keep it up man, she just learned the hardest lesson there is: The danger of too much throttle! All my kids did the same thing when learning to ride there quads: not paying enough attention when hitting the throttle and then they scare themselves and forget how to shut it off. All 3 of them hit the same tree, too. lol

Thanks Sticks! One of the biggest reasons I got my kids into riding dirt bikes is so they learn good driving habits when they get older. All three of them have now wiped out. It is real to them. Kids at 16 driving cars think they are invincible and can be careless and reckless. I am hoping this is not true with my kids now. They know if they aren't carefull an accident is waiting to happen.
The other plus is that they might be into bikes when they get older and I will have more people to ride with It would be nice to have some hobbies to share with the kids as they grow.

Glad to hear you both are doing fine. Sorry about the hand (any idea about what happened?).
It'sw good to have hobbies to share with our Kids, in my case my Son (almost 10yo) and I are hooked into airsoft, so every Sunday we sat at the terrace and shoot a cardboard box. I want him to learn about safe gun handling.
Hugs,
David

Rich, glad your daughters ok and sorry to hear about the hand.
I bought my cousin's kid a razor motorcycle for christmas and that was..interesting. He wiped out a few times then he went full throttle into the garage door. We was running all out and still couldn't catch him.
