Thermostat

Has anyone ever removed, thought of removing or know anyone that has removed the thermostat, specifically in the dead heat of the summer, to possibly keep the bike from getting quite as hot. Does anyone know if this would hurt the bike in any way?

running any vehicle TOO cold is bad for combustion: you will build up carbon in combustion chambers and will dirty up your exhaust. The problem lies not in your thermostat but in your fans coming on at too high a temp. Jump around them or buy a aftermarket 175deg fan switch that zipties to one of the radiator hoses and hook it to straight to your fan (or just to a aftermarket second fan which is popular to do). Can even rig a switch inline so that you can have power going to it after you shutdown.

I was thinking that since a motorcycle heats up a lot quicker and typically runs much hotter than autos and there is no heater to be concerned wit on bikes and the bike is typically ridden during the warm months, that removing the stat shouldn't be a prob and would keep the bike cooler but not cold because bikes generally are hot running engines anyway.

As far as the fan coming on at too high a temp. I'm going to have to ck into what are saying. The manual states that the fan comes on at 203 degrees. Having it come on sooner would be great but how would that differ from taking the thermo out?

Taking the thermostat out is not the best idea cause then you allow the temp to possibly fluctuate too much ,worst in a cold weather application cause you will never fully warm up, and in some cases you create a pressure drop cause the thermostat acts as a water nozzle . Kinda like a garden hose , what happens when you remove the nozzle ? The water just gushes . Put the nozzle back on and you got a fire hose!
Now sometimes removing the thermostat works in more cooling , just depends on the design of the machine. So if you wanna be our guienna pig , please let us know the results!

taking it out would make the water go through the radiator too quickly without removing the heat. I think it's a bad idea to remove it. ignore the gauge and get a ZX 10 fender bud

I got an extra fan from schnitz racing for about $60. Fan + engine ice reduces temp. spike when sitting still. This combo also dropped running temp by about a bar.

I would like to know how a different rad. cap will effect temp and were can I find it?
