But maybe he wanted three jackets!
Hi Chris , I wont recomend a brand , but there is good armour inserts on some.
Get a safe one first time, saves money and skin!
If you going to race there may be regulations on being zipped to pants once you get your times down, I dont know American rules.
Watch out for those press studs that scratch the hell out of your tank!

Speed and Strength makes a good jacket. I have their textile and also their full leather suit. I rate leathers on how many times they go down before you have to replace it. If it's less than 3 it's junk.
Whats the difference between a leather jacket that saves your skin but gets destroyed versus another brand that saves your skin 3 times before getting destroyed?
Answer ... Money for replacing the cheap one 2 more times.

I finally bought a Vanson after 30 years riding. I'm lucky to live close enough to the factory in Massachusetts to go there and pick one off the rack.
They've been around for ever. And for good reason.
MAN....those are thick, rugged and real nice quality leather compared to most others.
And if you like, they custom fit them to you and you can specify colors to your heart's content.
Yes, you pay for them dearly, but it will be the last jacket you buy.

And don't forget the old saying: TIGHT IS RIGHT.
Elbow & shoulder pads need to stay in place if you go down. Otherwise, they are of no use at all.

Chris,
The AGV Sport SP4 is a great jacket. Do a search for it on compacc.com I looked at them yesterday and they're on sale ($180 Off retail) so you can pick one up for $199, free shipping too. They run a tad small, so buy the next size up if you decide to go with them. I've owned 3 of them and they come in silver, red or blue trim. Funny thing is, I just bought my old blue SP4 jacket back from a friend yesterday for $75.
Hope this helps.

real easy if you are me: buy a cow, cut its head off at the neck, and its front legs at the hoof: squeeze the meat out like you are trying to get the last drop of toothpaste outa the toothpaste tube: Insert over head. Piece of cake.
