MY MEMBER JUST PICKED UP A MINT 2006 14, NEED SOME SETTINGS AND ADVICE
I am proud to say that one of my members has picked up a CLEAN red 2006 ZX14 from a guy in Vineland, NJ. Here is the rundown I've seen so far:
2006 ZX14 (RED)
FRAME INSPECTION
8900 MILES
M4 SLIP ONS
FLIES IN (YES IN)
TRE
1 TOOTH DOWN (FRONT)
STOCK REAR SPROCKET
BROCK'S LOWERING LINKS (SET AT POSITION 2)
STOCK FRONT TIRE (BEAT TO HELL, LOL)
SHINKO REAR TIRE (SHAPED LIKE FRANKENSTEIN'S HEAD, LOL)
RED BODY LIGHTS
A FEW BODY DECALS THAT WILL SEE A HEAT GUN AND FINGERNAIL REAL SOON
My member is no racer or corner carver. He is a mild-mannered rider. This bike will be lucky if he goes over 90 with him on it. He will have enough meat on the corner of the tires to make a new tire. If I'm on it, it will be luck if it makes it UNDER 90, lol. He's over 200 lbs and has been riding for several years so I told him a mildy modded 14 would be a nice addition for him. The first thing I told him to do is order some Pilot Powers. Here in my club we swear by them. Next I plan to put the bike back up in the air, position 1 on the links. If I find him a set of stock links I will put them on instead and the Brock's will go on the market. My biggest concern is making sure his suspension is set to stock. I'm no suspsension guy but I want to do my best to make sure it's at least set to stock. Can anyone send me something in plain english what my stock settings should be? Something that tells me how clicks or how many lines should be showing? In addition, is there anything that I may have not looked into that I should possibly check out for him? I'm no A1 mechanic but I will turn a wrench here and there if it's easy enough for a caveman, lol.
PICS SOON

Stock settings are in the owners handbook.
If you can't get hold of one let me know and I'll post it up.
I heard stock settings are for 70KG rider.

The standard settings are for a 150lb rider so will not suit your guy but this is what the book says.
Front Suspension, Owners Manual page 145:
Spring Preload = 0.6 inches from top of adjuster.
Rebound Damping = 5 clicks from fully in.
Compression Damping = 10 clicks from fully in.
Rear Suspension, Owners Manual page 148:
Rebound Damping = 1 1/2 tuns out.
Compression Damping = 2 1/4 turns out.
Maybe you could return everything to stock as a starting point, get the Sag right for his weight and go from there.

Send him to washington cycle works in washington NJ. Nice ride out there. They are the pros at setting the suspension (make an appointment first). I'm 265 and the power pilots made a big difference but setting the suspension made a HUGE difference.

Here are some pics taken with my BlackBerry Tour. Not the greatest but not bad. So far I've heatgunned off the decals and put the lowering link on 1. The bike sits a little lower than mine which leads me to believe the spring has been adjusted as well. I'm gonna return it to stock tomorrow but from there I'm gonna pass it off to someone who can set the bike up for his weight. As for the Brocks links, I will talk to my guy to see what he wants to do about selling them because he will NEVER touch them again. This bike even has EVERY plastic washer under the body bolts, lol. Very clean.

If your friend is more into street riding and touring as you say then I would personally rather go with the Dunlop Roadsmart's. They are fantastic street tyres and exceptional in the wet. Re. suspension I can scan the manual for you if you need.
